If you were to buy a brand new motorhome from, say, 2 - 300 miles from your home... and if..

Something were to go wrong.... would you have to take it back to whence it came for repairs.???

Or would/could you ask for a local repairer to fix the problem, should one arise..

:thanks3:

If it was me it would be what ever the most inconvenient to do is bound to be the answer. Haha

"Wow"............. Just read Conal `s thread = https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...you-travel-for-work-on-your-motorhome.242866/

That would really *iss me orft.... :Eeek:

I would expect some serious fuel money and other expenses... or I would create merry :swear2:..

Had a few successful businesses in my time and in my VIEW...

The customer is always right and you should bend over backwards to keep them happy..

Or name and shame... The web is a wonderful place for getting information and reading reviews..

Engine wise id stick to local garage i know
habitation id be back to dealer it was bought from
unless warranty said different,

Bought our motorhome from near to our grandkids so gave us a good excuse to return whenever we wanted.

“Hello dad, hello daughter - yeah motorhome fresh water tank needed filling so had to bring it the dealer, do the kids want to go to the zoo”.

The dealer we bought our van from is 222 km away. We had to go back once as there was a problem with the Elektroblock (which they changed) and hab door fly screen (which they changed). We're going back shortly for them to look at an issue with a section of headlining which has come adrift (looks like the glue bond has failed in the heat).
We just make it into a few days trip away and take our time. If anything needs more than a day to do they let you stay in your van in their yard. We'd deffo keep going back as they are superb.
For the Fiat side we use the main dealer up the road in Granada - around 85km

Hi Mo, as you know I got our from TW in Stafford, for warranty work, local dealers not interested, had to take to Stafford which was a PITA . 200 miles there then train home or night in hotel if they needed it more than a day then 200 miles home . I have decided that if anything goes wrong now I will just take the hit (unless its a mega problem) but warranty is about done now anyway.

Waiting for parts to arrive so I can travel best part of three hours to get them replaced / repaired.

Got a very good purchase deal, but it’s a bind dealing with a company so far away. Most jobs are easy fix, but the dealer won’t send me parts to do myself.

The harder jobs they want the van overnight, but that would cost me hotel accommodation. I asked for a vehicle to get me home……no reply to that. ‘We’ll do what we can in a day, we’ll then arrange another visit for you’.

I’d have done a deal with a company 40 minutes away, but they wanted £5k more.

Are there any dealers that would arrange and pay for overnight accommodation or hire cars? 🤷‍♂️

The minimum is the same as a new vehicle, car /van. Courtesy vehicle to be supplied .Use the consumer rights act. Someone posted the motorhome specific part on here today.

I’ve been waiting 7 months for replacement Head Unit, almost as long for other bits. Love to start quoting legislation to them……but they’ve not been in a rush and I just want to get the bigger jobs done, then I’m going my own way.

Bigger jobs…….media head unit ((£1500), replacement sink / gas hobs (rusting), re-route tow bar cables (they’d run them through the mounting holes for the spare wheel carrier), fresh water tank leaking…….and a few others.

Love the van, but needs TLC….which it’s getting with us. (y)

Much depends on individual dealers. When I got my new RV in 2010 I got all warranty work etc carried out by Signature at Wolverhampton even though they didn’t supply it.
The dealer I bought from was a waste of space once I had the van.
I would though rather buy local if possible subject to dealer reputation.

The Vehicle itself is warranted by the Marque Fiat etc so local dealer. What’s to go wrong that you cannot sort yourself most things are minor and not worth the effort of making the journey or the further inconvenience of leaving the vehicle to recollect or hanging around for hours on end.
I had an issue with a door mechanism on a A Class that wouldn't allow the door to lock,a few emails of images and they sent me a new part that l fitted in no time, sorted.
Dometic send their Technicians to the dealer to sort problems but equally will come to you.
For the folk who don’t know how to put a screw in a wall it’s a bit different and l do know loads that are pretty useless😀

Asked for the parts that I could sort out…..no.

You get what you pay for and this is exactly the problem when driving a hard deal when the purchase price is the main criteria.
There is a lot more to a purchase decision than the price.
Apparently the dealer I purchased from (Cara) comes highly recommended. Lots of research, otherwise I wouldn’t have purchased from them.

They’ve even got a deal with the Detheffs Owners Club. 🤷‍♂️

If my Peugeot car needs work, I can take it to any Peugeot dealership. Can’t believe it doesn’t work the same with MH’s.

A Motorhome manufacturer is very different to to a vehicle manufacturer and l believe this is where the conflict arises, a vehicle consists of many parts that the manufacturer either manufactures themselves or out sources to their specification to in turn complete the finished product.
A Motorhome manufacturer on the other hand purchases a base vehicle that still offers the manufacturers warranty at resale but the out sourced products are stand alone products, Fridge,Windows,Flooring,Sink, etc etc, all to make up a home on wheels and all with separate warranty that the Dealer has to claim from if issues arise, it must be a nightmare to administer.
Consider the Dealer he buys in a MH from the manufacturer at say £50k or £75k or £100k working on a margin of 15% at best, part exchange to deal with (win or loose profit wise on resale) get squeezed on the price to do a deal, makes what! £5k or £10k or £15k gross, he is not making a fortune and then the buyer that squeezed him on price wants seriously looking after because he spent £50k or £75k or £100k !!! No the figures might be high but the profit is low.
Then consider the buyer that didn’t put the squeeze on? Who is going to get looked after😉

If I buy a Sunlight MH I should be able to go to any Sunlight MH Dealership for warranty work…..maybe the Consumer Rights legislation should help us and make that law? 🤷‍♂️

Got ours in Derby and took it back a couple of times for warranty and "free hab service" offer. Always built in to a trip though.

We agreed with the dealer (Webb’s) that we would be able to get any work done nearer to home. Had a couple of issues that we sorted out with a local dealer (Geoff Cox), & Webb’s paid us back, no trouble.

It doesn't matter if that is part of CRL or not, if the non-supplying dealer doesn't want to do the work (which is normal) they'll just say they are fully booked etc.

Most would expect you to take it back to them, however if you can agree in advance that you could do stuff locally so long as it's nothing too major I've found they will usually agree to this but you need it in writing ideally, similarly if it's a part that needs replacing and it's something you can do yourself they'll send it to you to do. The difficulty is that even if you have a dealer locally who sells the save manufacturer's products it doesn't mean they will take on any warranty work or habitation check for you as you didn't buy it from them.
