Just returned from 4 weeks in Europe, was supposed to be 8 weeks, but that's another story.

We have never been to Barcelona before, so we thought we'd spend a couple of days in the city, and the Italian Aires book recommended the Aire 'Park and Ride' site at the Decathalon Forum.

It was hell!! The smell was offensive, with rubbish strewn everywhere, the toilets were like sewers, as were the washrooms, the electric hook ups were dangerous, lying on the ground, with exposed wires, and the units were squeezed in tight enough to make getting in and out of the doors a problem. The noise at night was relentless, and sleeping was a problem. The so called 'security' men spent the night sleeping in their car!!

To top it all off, the Barcelona leg of the Red Bull Air race was taking plase over the harbour, just a couple of hundred yards away on the day we arrived. Now, I'm a pilot, but the noise was unbearable after a couple of hours.

The price for this stay?? 25 Euros a night , and not a bus in sight. We decided to up sticks, and went up the coast a few miles to Calella, where we found a beautiful beachside site, with a quick bus service into the city. Highly recommended.

'Park and Ride' in Barcelona is an Aire to avoid!!

Been traveling to Barcelona for many years when was working, it allways stinks like an open sewer, when you come down the motorway and its lying in all its glory in front of you with a cloud of polution hanging over it that would put Delhi to shame, you know your in Barcelona, but what a night out it is.Woo Woo Woo comes to mind.::bigsmile:::bigsmile:::bigsmile:

last time we went we were meeting the sis in law and her hubby (they live in castellon) in barcelona so booked a hotel for two nights to be with them.

we used a secure truck stop (locked compound with on-site security and cameras) about 15k outside barcelona.

15 euro per night but we knew it was safe as the bro in law checked it out first.

obviously no good for overnighting but excellent storage facilities inc showers, toilets and truckers cafe.

we must have been after the street cleaners 'cos it was very clean and didnt smell at all.
