I am quite used to getting adverts on FB from companies that I have bought from or browsed but over the last few weeks I have been getting adverts from sites that my husband has bought from or browsed.

Bad enough that our own browsing is being monitored but somebody else’s?

Any experts out there who can explain how this is happening and how it can be stopped?

Are you sharing a browser session?
Maybe you've turned off personalised ads and actually it works better enabled for you.
Or vice versa.

Have a look at your ad settings: https://mbasic.facebook.com/settings/?tab=ads (The 5th section/block down if the link doesn't go to the right section 1st time)

If you are using Chrome, if you click on the dots on right had side near the top, click on history then click clear browsing data that should stop it, I have Browsing, downloads, cookies and cached all ticked (they will be removed) if you don't want it to remove passwords leave unticked. works for me.

Don’t use Chrome, although OH does.

its called remarketing ads, people pay to show them via adwords and facebook ads,
if youve browsed somewhere the cokkie planted on your pc follows you and basically says
"hey" you browsed and didnt buy..."are you sure"
you can stop it like others said or by when agreeing to cookies say no or adjust the settings

Even scarier when you don’t search for something but it comes up on Facebook after you’ve had a conversation about it.

I have heard that this can happen if the conversation happened where Alexa is present. Looks like 1984 is here!

Did you find anything in Facebook's Ad settings that can be adjusted to get the experience you want?

Only thing we share is a broadband connection. From other replies, here and in other places, this would seem to be the cause. Goodbye privacy!

Not really. Seems to refer to ads based on my browsing. No mention of others browsing.

I make a point of googling complete nonsense at random just to screw up these sodding algo rythms. I don't know if it works but you get some fun/wierd results sometimes.

Reading between the lines ... what EXACTLY has popped up as an advert that you didn't know he was looking at and don't want to see again? :giggle:

More importantly, what have YOU been looking at that you don't' want HIM to see adverts for??? :xrofl:

whats really frightening is alexa listening to your every word.We were sat in the kitchen and mentioned we hadn't bumped into an acquaintance and wondered if he had moved at no time did we mention his surname just the fact that he is the father of my sons best friend walked back to my computer flicked on face book and there he was in my suggested friends

I googled 'Italian Shoes' once and ended up on some stinky porn site full of old blokes in vests and black socks gathered around some poor cow on a bed, bloody horrendous and not something you would want the wife to find in your search history. I ended up with a pair of broagues in the end... now that didn't sound quite right either did it

Nothing very interesting, I’m afraid! Just cookware and model railways! That’s him. Me, nothing.

There is a local jewellery shop that comes up every day. I don’t do jewellery! Maybe I should start looking for lipstick on his collar.
