Is it an emergency cord for opening the gas lock door if the internal mechanism \ cables breaks?

If it was on an old kon tiki I'd say it was the emergency liferaft pull cord

Do you have a bike rack?

I had a hanging wire for ages which turned out to be a wire (with plug missing) from my bike rack alarm.

That's very heavy for a wire....looks more like a tube to me, what's above it.
