Woman down the road whipped off my passenger side mirror 😭😢🤐👎

But it’s obviously your fault I’m afraid, had you not worked hard and bought a Motorhome it wouldn’t have happened.

You can’t expect someone else to take responsibility for your efforts

A guy I know ALWAYS stops dead in his motor if the squeeze is even looking like it may be slightly tight when passing oncoming cars. I remember saying "youll get through there jim"
Nope he said, if she hits me, it will be her fault if Im stationary :)

True really

You really should park with the offside mirror tucked in, it's easy to do and saves all that hassle of replacing it.
Hindsight, I know, (y)
To save an insurance claim, they are quite easy to fit, replacements available on e Bay. (assuming it's a ducato/Peugeot base)

I did telephone her today and she said she had passed the “accident” details onto the company she works for, a county council company, so I await here eagerly

As you say hindsight, it’s a Hymer, basically not a major problem, it’s just why should I pay for it, it deffo needs a new mirror, the mirror arm I could sort out

be pro-active and phone the company and offer to settle "out of court" if they pay the repair bill. No insurance claim or loading of your insurance next few years despite it not being your fault

Well I work on the principal that my wing mirror sticks out further than my motorhome, better a new wing mirror than the side of the van.

Well that will take forever risk assessment, method statement, pass it to the correct officer, not my section, you need the RS team, but they don’t come in to work as they are at home on pay!
Good luck with that 🙄

They will want to involve your insurance company, as they won't want to talk to you directly.
refuse & insist. I always di as the big 1 suggested . Ring them up & sort it out. Then ring again, ,twice a day ,annoy them. use multiple emails if the muck you about. More than a week initiate small claims court against her and the company.

Long long time ago I reversed works van into a contractors vehicle on site. I reported the bump immediately to my works transport dept. The contractors didn't . After that my firm refused to entertain their claim.

I see it's a B class so it will be the best part of a grand, the Spanish company take makes will only supply Hymer so it has to come from a Hymer dealer.

Contact her and say that if it’s not sorted quickly that you will report it to the police as a hit and run. That will mean a court case possible points on her license. It worked for me many years ago, shame you have to work to so hard to get conpensated

If it’s a Council / Company vehicle, pass on details to your insurance company and let them sort it out. Your premium will go up next renewal anyway, so don’t be further out of pocket. You will have to declare it whether you claim or not.

Don’t rely on others to do the right thing. (y)

And the officer behind the desk may ask you why you haven't reported the incident within the prescribed time limit and may well charge you as well depending on how bolshy he's feeling.

Not necessarily, I'm with Direct Line and a few years ago my car was rear ended by a white van. DL judged it as a no fault claim which was totally recovered and my premium did not and has not gone up since.

It may depend on the company......However, my son was involved in a no fault accident two years ago. At renewal his premium went up, son changed his company to get more or less the same price as he paid the previous year........He was with Direct Line at the time of the accident.

Insurance.........it’s a lottery. ;)

Insurance companies tend not to see it like that, merely being on the road and being hit means you have some part in the accident, the line of thought is if you were not there the accident would not have happened. Unless an insurance company totally rejects a claim it can be knock fir knock £1,000 claim is hardly worth going to court over or fighting it so it could cost both insurance companies £500

If the mirror is off then the vehicle cannot be used. Inform them you want compensating for the mirror, the cost of fitting it, lack of use of the vehicle for X days x £200/day .expenses per hour or part hour for contacting them/dealing with the claim; any future increase in your insurance policy over the amount being paid today & for the next 5 years.

You could report anyway just to cover yourself. I doubt the police will be interested though.

You have to be careful what you report, I had a runner bang the side of my vehicle I stopped he feigned he was hurt and ran off. I reported this to the Police incase he reported it, also to the insurance company, no claim has been made and no complaint to the police yet its now on my insurance as an accident with a £210 cost and it will stay there for a full 12 months this means all my premiums are affected.

If this is a £1000 mirror personally I would say sort it yourself it could cost more in the long run in terms of premiums its not the right and wrong its how your wallet will be hit

No they won't. Both parties have exchanged details so there is no requirement to report to police at all, and I suspect they would decline any interest in the circumstances.

Sorry. Missed the bit where he said they'd exchanged details. Agree. The police won't be interested if no injuries.

bigalw35 Most L A's self insure, which means they settle claims themselves, so this may not involve your insurance.
