Hi there, Can anyone recommend where we could get a tow bar and wiring done to use an A frame, fitted to our Motorhome, to enable us to tow a car? Also, do you think that a 1.9 lt Fiat Ducato Motorhome would be ‘man enough’ to tow a 1100 kilogram car? We are based in Lincoln and It would only be for use in the UK. Many thanks.

Hi, what does the vehicle plate say about train weight? Or the manual, does it give a max tow weight.?

Do you want a tow bar on the van, an A Frame or both?

Plenty of places do these so really need to know where you are located.

Cheers

Thanks for your reply. We haven’t been able to find anything in the manual about tow weight. We want both a tow bar on the van and an A frame. We are based in Lincoln.

The weight will be on the VIN plate on the van along with the other weights.
The one you want is the highest, or last number.
1st number = front axle max
2nd number = rear axle max
3rd number = overall max (gvw)
4th number = combined vehicle max (combined gross vehicle max - aka - train weight)

Deduct the van weight from the combined weight and the result is the max weight you can tow.

The converter will have stuck their own plate on somewhere, door step, inside a cupboard or even under the bonnet with the base van manufactures plate.
The converters plate supercedes the base vehicle plate and those weights must be used.
Sounds complicated but is very easy to work out.

A tow bar will be about £1000 to £1300 depending on your chassis.

An A Frame will be about £1100 depending on the car. That will be for mechanical over-ride braking. Up to about £2500 - £3000 for electronic braking.

would be a good place to start enquiries as would

Towbars 2 towcars sorted my first toad and the motorhome wiring to provide 12v to the towcar. They are based in Grimsby so close to you. They subsequently modified a second car for me.

No connection but good service.

The photo submitted by the originator is the converters plate.

I'm with TonyEmm on this one. If the Converter hasn't put a Train Weight on the 'van I don't think the 'van's OK to tow.
