‘Always-on’, as a rear-view mirror, or just for reversing - or both?

Ok. The Garmin BC40 I use is for reversing (it’s attached to the rear number plate at low-level), and it only works with certain Garmin Sat Navs, so, if you haven’t got one of those, it’s a non-starter unless you buy another Sat Nav too…….
I have no experience with the Boscams as mentioned by phillipsheila - perhaps other Funsters can help….?

I bought one that doesn't need to be wired in because it uses a built in rechargeable battery. It attaches by strong magnets. I used it for a while waiting for my installed rearview camera to be replaced. No problems with interference. It uses an old mobile phone for display. However a disadvantage is that you have to turn on your phone, open an app and make a connection whenever you go for a trip and your partner gets ratty.
Rear view alway on camera

The boscam fits on the no plate and it also has a mini solar panel

inside the cab it plugs into the cig lighter
Amazon product ASIN B07YKV9C1Fthis is cheaper than the first one i posted

What I have always thought was a good idea was for a small camera that can link wirelessly to a phone. Not for reversing, but for using as a waste dump camera.

Reversing, I think that you are better off with a wired cam, with dual views. Mine points down to the towbar and back to the wider view. And it is always on.

Not sure, it came fitted as standard. I've just looked at the monitor that clips on the rear view mirror and there are no markings of any type on it.

However, it looks like a typical Chinese effort, manufactured by the million & branded under several names. A quick look at google image and the exact same model is being sold under loads of brand names, including Cisbo, Vardsafe, RevCamUK, Pyle, to name but a few.

Just be aware that some of the complete kits come with single lens cameras. These clip on monitors can switch between two views, but obviously only with a dual lens camera . You may be better off getting a clip on monitor as above, and a separate dual lens camera, if you cannot find a kit that comes with a dual camera.

This one above, for example, looks great but only has a single lens camera

You need a camera that looks something like this to get the best out of the gadget:

Amazon have them, but you can get it for much much less than they are charging.

I also have one like this which displays on a 8 inch tablet which is mounted on my dash. I only use it when needed and have had no interference issues.

I fitted a WiFi camera to position us over the grey waste dumps to save the missus from getting to wet when it's raining. :giggle:

In our bus, it is definitely a blue job!

Definitely interested in a wifi camera to do exactly what you have done. What make of camera is that? Is it 12v or battery? And doesn't it get covered in mud and stuff from the road?

I bought it of eBay some 3 years ago so unfortunately no details on the camera make other than it is basically a generic cheap Chinese WiFi reversing camera.
Yes it is 12v and I have it wired it to a switch in the dash rather than leave it power all the time.
It uses an app for it on my smartphone and our Android dash headunit.
The camera is mounted on the underside of the van's floor so is tucked up out of the way and picks up very little road muck.
