Thinking of going away just after Christmas , somewhere warm , either Spain or Portugal , any tips on route , places to stay etc
Properly would be 3-4 weeks , any advice greatly appreciated.

You need to be in South East Spain below Valencia to have any chance of warm weather, it will only be warm though in the afternoon if you are lucky and then when the sun goes down it gets quite cool.
Whichever way you go it will take you 3 to 4 days to get there although someone will no doubt say it can be done in 2 days.
If you need a campsite then the popular coastal ones will be very busy if not full as will the Camperstops.
It’s a fair way to go for only 3 weeks though.

If it's warmth you want then south or south-east Spain is the best bet. The Portuguese Atlantic coast can be good but is much more variable as far as weather goes.

If you've only got 3 or 4 weeks, then the best bet is to get the Brittany Ferries ship directly to northern Spain. Not cheap, but the diesel to drive through France isn't either. If you ask on the forum here before you book, someone will give you a code giving 10% discount off the fare (not the cabin cost, though).

Still being at work, I can only wangle 4 weeks' holiday max. (and that takes some doing), so we catch the ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao. You can drive from there to the south-east coast in a day if you really want.

We tend to travel all around Spain/Portugal during the four weeks in Dec/Jan with temperatures varying from -20C (high in the mountains) to mid 20s at the coast.

We stay at a mixture of free aires, commercial aires and campsites. We never book in advance and tend to use Camper Contact / ACSI / All The Aires to find places and have never had trouble finding somewhere to stay.

This was our last 4 week trip:

There's a good article in this months MMM magazine showing the best non toll roads through France and Spain to get to the Costa's

Hi do you find it quite easy to get on Aires & camperstops as we want to do it but not sure about getting on Aires at that time of year cheers Rod

During winter months plenty of availability if you stay clear of Benidorm campsites. PM me if you require a discount code for Brittany Ferries
