Contemplating going south to Spain for some of the winter months and hopefully some sun. After researching this website it would appear Funsters use several sites.

What is the best site and why do they favour their recommendation.

Camping Eden at Peniscola is our all time favourite site in Spain. Very clean, well organised site on the level and very close to the sea front and town. Also on bus route to other interesting towns.

Another good site is Vilanova. A large well organised site with buses at entrance to local town and even a regular service to Barcelona.

Wherever you go, enjoy.

Have stayed on both in the past. Agree Camping Eden is a nice site in an excellent location. Also further south than Vilanova so hopefully better weather.

Benidorm drags many of us in because of it's sheltered position and it's fully open for all our needs all through the winter, it's not everyone's cup of tea. 8 miles away, Altea is quiet and peaceful with same climate, inland from there a new cheap site.

Hi Brian,
If you are referring to the Orange Grove Camper Park at Albir, it has been closed down.

We stay at la torreta in Benidorm as it is close to the seafront but I think el raco is better but further up the road happy travels Rod

"BEEN closed down" as in it wasn't legal ?

The Benidorm freebee news paper claimed that it had been built without the appropriate planning permission.

The last 2 years we have headed to South of Spain for a couple of weeks over Xmas/New Year. We have been very lucky with the weather on both trips. 18-20degrees and sunny in Totana, we have stayed both times in a quiet aire here usually around 9 euros a night with EHU. In fact there was only us and one other van there in the whole place. Ideal for us as we like the peace and quiet, loads of places to walk/ride.

This time we are going Portsmouth - Santander rather than wasting 3-4 days going down and back through France as i only have 2 weeks off then back to work :(. We also got caught out driving back through the Pyranees last year as there was a lot of snow, luckily it turned bad on the otherside going down hill so we were ok, apart from the stress of driving a new motorhome with 6ft of snow each side of you and wondering if the van was going to make it :) Still we always make the most of it, we did stay in Valencia last year on the way there in a campsite which was very busy even for that time of the year. This time we will be taking a 300cc scooter as my 125cc we took last year struggled with the hills and motorways so sold it and brought a bigger one.

The good thing is that if you dont like it you just move on :)

What about Camping Marjal on the Costa Blanca. Certainly reads well. Also do they have another site on the Coast?

Still making mistakes! But they're not as costly.

Personaly, I thought Marjal was like a container park with a bar. Hated it, but there's a lot of folk on here like parking in car parks so each to their own.

I think that their other site is at Guardamar del Segura

http://www.campingmarjal.com/en/localizacion/como-llegar/

Would recommend Lo Monte, about 15 miles south of Guardamar. Spent a couple of weeks there in May, about 1 km to the beach, walking distance to supermarket and a few bars. Nice site only a few years old

Not long enough, but a little common sense helps..........

There was other things happening that local authority did not like ( selling alcohol etc etc etc ), so it was closed. We stayed once and gave it a miss after that. Come and chat with me I will fill you in.

Our favourite is Villasol, ideal location and well run. Although they don't allow dogs on site you can occasionally hear guard dogs from surrounding properties.
