Hello again,

The windscreen on my Pilote A Class now has a lovely big scratch nearly a meter long (2cm wide) on the o/s where some bird shi*te got caught on the wiper and did a job of work; a perfect crescent. It's not deep, you can barely feel it when you run a finger nail over it but it is certainly visible.

I have tried the "arm and hammer" toothpaste trick to no avail.

I have looked on line at rubbing kits but the feed back is pretty sketchy.

So the question is - Do any of you fine folk have a suggestion to remedy this? Anybody on the West Coast of Scotland specialise in grinding these out?

The final solution would be a replacement, but I reckon they are not cheap, or readily available.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers in advance

You could try jewelers rouge but it will take a lot of polishing.
A lot of the windscreen chip repair guys will polish out scratches try to find an independent one, the guys working for the nationals appear to lack decent training.

Failing that a new screen will only cost you the windscreen excess normally £75 or £100.

Sounds like something I might have said, ‘‘tis true though, a good independent screen guy can repair chips and cracks that the National companies say can’t be done. However a scratched toughened screen is very hard to repair and even if you get the scratch out the wipers probably won’t clear properly after.

Makes you wonder what these birds are eating, sharp sand or diamond dust!
Amazin, would never have considered bird lime would do that to toughened glass, paintwork damage is bad enough.
Good luck to OP, maybe some cutting paste used with a Random Orbit polishing Pad buffer would work, IMO better to try that before replacing the whole screen.

Problem with polishing it out is that it leaves a shallow groove that the wipers won't clear. OK till the screen gets dirty and you will be still left with a crescent dirty line. Best to advise a crack and have it replaced, £70 on insurance.
