I have used "Seal Guard" "protective lubricant"- 50ml. Which I couldn't now find on the internet. It keeps narrow rubber trims supple. If this is buffed up it may stop the black smears but I'm not sure. "BumperCare" is an excellent product from Autoglym and this, when buffed up may stop the smear.

The stuff to use is : SONAX GummiPflege comes in a lipstick type applicator, softens and seals rubber. Used by BMW main dealers (and others) It is good for all sorts of jobs involving rubber seals.
