Getting Better
Saw this today and wasn’t turning much despite it being fairly windy....

Pretty pointless really. More solar much better.

I’ve seen a lot used on boats so they must work to some extent.

As I remember it, strong vibration and noise were the drawbacks from others' experiences.

I’ve seen a lot used on boats so they must work to some extent.

Usually at the top a mast in a coastal location and just used to trickle charge an unused boat, so not quite the same use-case. Fine for that, but not great where more input is needed.

I have looked at them for an off-grid building and struggled to justify compared with solar, especially given the increased maintenance / failure rate, because of the moving parts, and the cost.

We've one on a folding pole on the back of the van. When erected the turbine is around 3meters of the top of the roof so around 6meters from ground. As said before vibration through the pole into the van is annoying. We couldn't have ours running at night as the pole is right behind our bed headboard. During the day it would only really work in strong gust and realistically not enough to provide suitable charge into batteries. It does need to be wired diferantly as well, the charge goes straight into the batteries then the charge controller deals with any excess from the batteries feeding it into a heating element or similar.

Ours is still on the roof but extra solar would and has been my choice on our Merc conversation.
