We’re on the North of Skye, with winds at 50/60mph and gusting to 80/90 (so says the Met office).

We were a bit side on to the wind overnight and the van was rocking a bit even with the levellers down. I have pointed us into the wind and put the levellers down so we feel fine where we are but I have two questions:-

1) I haven’t driven in strong winds. We have an 8m A class. My instinct is to stay off the roads until it calms down as it’s exposed and roads are narrow. How tricky do strong winds make driving?

2) Our fridge keeps shutting down. I suspect the wind is blowing out the gas burners. I put the vent cover on, but that doesn’t seem to help. Any ideas?

Thanks

Chris

You have done all you can do. When I worked on aircraft we would park them facing into winds above 45mph, your van is capable of over 70mph so should present no problem. Might be worth checking there is no debris in front of the van that could be blown into the windscreen, loose corrugated iron sheets etc. As for the fridge, again you have done the right thing. Can you feel any wind blowing into the van around the fridge? There should be none however many vans do not have the fridge well room sealed, try stuffing tissue etc around the fridge as a temporary measure as the air will not flow into the fridge cavity if there is no way out.

We have had the fridge blow out on a few occasions when the wind has shifted.. I just turned the van round a bit :-) .

Don't park under a tree! Or even downwind of a tree. Huge branches can be brought down by those wind gusts.
