Hi all, we’re newbies to this site! We have recently purchased an old VW Auto-sleeper Clubman GL and are looking to fit a wind out awning.

Any tips or advice please on size (should it come over the passenger door?), brands and models? Or not at all? It’s a mine field out there but we were looking at a Fiamma f45s. No clue! ?

TIA

We have a Fiamma 45s and it’s been great. Have ordered storm straps to keep it in place when it’s windy. Left it out last night with pegs in and it was fine with a lot of rain overnight. I’d recommend it no problem

Welcome! It's the mounting which is the tricky bit. Some can be stuck down with Sikaflex others need reinforcing plates on the inside. If no one can give you a definitive answer on here it would be worth asking on a VW camper forum - I'm sure there must be one out there. :) Alternatively, ask the awning supplier. If they can't give you an answer look for a different supplier. :)

Very pleased with our fiamma f45s. We have the storm straps, but unless we were camped in a well sheltered spot we wouldn't risk leaving it out overnight

I put a Fiamma on a Bongo it came with brackets for a VW the fitted to the gutter under the lifting roof. Easy to fit and on the bongo I could only use 2 of the 3 brackets and it was fine. Got it from Leisure Shopping Direct I think they advised on the brackets for the vehicle.

Fiamma provides mounting brackets specifically to fit the awning to your VW T4 roof. At extra cost, naturally. Have a look at their current catalogue.

We thought about it when we had a VW T4 Westy and in the end decided we could do without a F45 wind out awning. We added a F65 to our current Fiat PVC and it has its benefits.

I have a FIAMMA in a bag..Now i am used to it i prefer to the previous wind outs i have had..It only needs an awning rail glued and screwed on to the van to fit it and it feels more secure when its windy than wind outs. Also much cheaper and you can remove it easily if you change your van.BUSBY..

Imho save your cash and buy a quest pop up gazebo.
Our awning has probably only come out 3 times.
Then all you will do is worry about the wind.
Put it away at night just get it back out in the morning.
Put it away if the wind picks up a little etc etc.
If your heart is set on one the fiamma would be my pick. Speak to John's cross motorhomes.

Thanks for the info ?
