Will any ladder do for attachments?

Hi, Picked up our new(to us) 2009 Rapido 9048df yesterday. On the back are 2 "rungs"-can I get any lightweight ladder to fix on it or does it need to be a specific type? Cheers

Never had one, but are these not ladders for accessing the roof? Will there be a third attaching point on the roof in which case a shaped ladder would be required. Just guessing mind you!

They don't look like Rapido fitted ladder fixings so I suspect it was for some other purpose, below is what the Rapido ones are like:

One thing you need to check is whether the existing brackets are securely fixed as I can't tell from your photo if they are just screwed on.

Could you not get an Aluminium fabrication firm to make you one up?

Perhaps you could mock up one out if 2x1 timber and hardboard for the hinges and take it to them to be custom made?

I could be wrong here, but I don’t think ladder attachments need to go on the roof,most I’ve seen are just screwed to the back of the van

Could they just be for mounting a kayak, or something similar, vertically?

In which case they may not have fixings that would bear the load of a person climbing.

More research needed. Previous owners?
