Virtually none ! :)
Brash, as 'in your face', 'overbearing', and I don't mean that in an offensive way. I enjoy peace and quiet, i am happy with my own company, or just the two of us. I don't need entertainment, or crowds. I don't like busy, busy places.

Craig
Me too, but I also love people watching especially on a busy prom. Its the only time I don't get into trouble with the missus for looking at the eye candy! ;)

The people parked up in their vans could well be out all day and pooping etc elsewhere.. Life is too short to worry yourself with how other people are behaving, just behave to your OWN standards and let the rest get on with it...
We have wild camped all over in Europe and have behaved responsibly with our waste, as I am sure 99% of the members on here also do..
It would appear that there is too much time spent "policing" what other folks are doing, rather than getting on with the fantastic life we have "earned" for ourselves, by "grafting" hard for 50 years !!!
We will continue to stop where we like without causing offence, leaving only footprints and friends and taking only photographs and happy memories with us when we leave !!!!
Enjoy it folks !!!

We don't ' wild camp' or book sites when touring, there are always alternatives but sometimes a little prior research is needed which I suppose detracts from the 'freedom' for some.
Parking on a street , even sleeping, is not camping in any sense of the word.
I have, out of necessity, slept in trucks in lay byes, streets ,industrial estates even truck stops and motorway service areas but I would not describe that as camping.
If these particular motorhomes are parking legally I do not see a problem but obviously if they are parked for an extended period then the local police may decide that they are doing more than parking.

As long as they comply with the new legislation for motorhomes which allows , cooking, sleeping, eating ,parking , etc; on the highway as long as you comply with the "stationary/parked" rules & don't do anything like extend awning, put chairs outside , etc; which constitutes " camping " then you're ok. :xThumb::xgrin:
You can even use your levelling ramps & are still classed as 'parked '.
That's as long as the Policia local / GC / National police actually know that there's new legislation , which is highly unlikely & why I carry my own.:xgrin:

You can extend awnings if you use wall brackets and legs dont touch the ground :) its easy enough to find s toilet for a pooh . pee in a large necked Bottle (orange juice ones good for this) put in day bag and dispose of properly! Its not hard.......peeing on bushes indeed. Imagine the stench if everyone done this, like on truck stops....disgusting

We passed by the location of these vans on our way out last night. We counted 9 or 10 vans parked up. Some were English, some were Dutch, there may have been a couple of French as well. As we passed by a man stepped out from one of the vans onto the pavement. He looked left and then right and on seeing that no pedestrians were walking along the pavement proceeded to urinate into the bushes. Is this acceptable behaviour.??

Yes it is. Common practice in France and not frowned upon if done discreetly. At least he looked left and right.

have done at many place in Europe, used campsite occasionally to empty cassette, shower ect, parked at Mazzaron until moved on, that's why we have fully equipped vans !!
Why pay a small fortune on site fees when you do not have too !!
We like the fact that we are sometimes on our own, no neighbours means good news to me.
When e want to talk /meet others that's what rallies/sites are for.
To me those that condemn it are scared to do it themselves,
Try it you might like it and if not don't moan about it

I do a lot of wild/free camping and am often asked what do I do ref black waste when miles from anywhere.
"Oh I've got the special tool" I reply
"Special tool ... whats that then?" They ask.
"You have to buy it from a specialist shop." Says I.
"Yes, yes, but what is it?"
"A shovel" says I.

By discretion I mean they at least turn their back to the road or public path. I have seen many weeing but never flashing full on. I doubt you have either in your eleven years. If you have perhaps your observing too closely. :xgrin: I said not frowned upon if done discreetly. Of course there will be a few indiscreet ones but that's life. Generally it's not a problem for me or French residents I don't think, I don't partake myself though.

Almost every time I've stopped for a break on a French autoroute aire I've seen at least car one stop next to the toilet block, the bloke gets out, pee's in bushes next to toilet block, get back in car and drive off. You gotta laugh. First time I saw it I thought it was just an odd-ball individual but I guess it's a national thing :)

Last year, stood at crossing waiting to cross the road in Javia. Spanish cyclist pulled up about 5 meters from the crossing and had a pee in the bushes on the central reservation/meridian. We didn't wait for him, we just crossed anyway!

Can't say it bothers me. Lots doing it in the same place can make a bit of pong but it doesn't normally happen like that - I've not seen any comments about the stench of walking down the road next to these Benidorm "freeloaders" so it can't be much of a problem. :)

And thats the distinction. Occasional emergency stop and a pee or continual pee'ing in the same spot..." EG truck stops!

Had one for 5 years many moons ago. Now starting again.
No in France it's nothing to do with emergency peeing. It's habit.

I've had a local drinking at the cafe next door in our village walk up to our hedge and stand there and have a pee pointing towards us sitting in the garden. Even though the cafe has a loo inside.

Across the road the old boy, now departed to the loo in the sky, came out of his house and walked to the gap between his and next door's and had a pee. Every morning, rain or shine. Why - it saved him the cost of flushing the loo.

No end of times people park in the green area behind our house and immediately get out and walk to the river and stand and have a pee. Despite turning their back to the cars parked nearby they are now facing the main road across the river. And there's a loo at one end of the car park area.

Workers outside the town hall would go into a small yard belonging to the house opposite and have a pee against the shed even though they were working for the town hall and it has a perfectly good toilet inside.

It's the same thinking that has the ladies toilet in a cafe where you have to walk passed the wall urinals to get to the ladies bit of the loos.

Peeing is a natural action and that's how the French look at it. Literally sometimes.

Weed in the bushes!

What a dreadful, evil man!

Arrest him and lock him up.

Now if he was a dog doing it against a wheel or lamp post that's ok...

Billions of people wee in the bushes every day!

JJ
Weed ... I suppose to confirm to normal English it should be 3 x e, ie past tense you usually add ed ... so weeed!!!

If Paula Radcliffe can do it on a London street in the marathon then I don't see a problem, if you are caught short then there are few alternatives with the number of public toilets decreasing yearly,
Just be discrete!

Not sure that you'd get away with that Eddie, reading the links given above it appears that anything that extends outside the standard vehicle is classed as 'camping', even opening the sky light or windows!
