Has has anyone thought of a wind generator? There is a wide selection available. There is a selection of silent running vertical ones rather than propellor type. Just a thought.

Watch out with these vertical axis turbines... It seems to be a bit of a wild west with the manufacturers /sellers claiming ridiculous power generation levels from small turbines.

One selling for just over £1000 is claiming 5kw at 15m/s, whereas actual physics suggests the maximum theoretical power from that size turbine at 15m/s is somewhere near 600W. Look up the Betz limit if you are interested.

They take up a lot of room when stowed, are a pain to set up the mast and rarely generate significant amounts of power in the types of locations you'd want to park a van. In the majority of cases, a PV panel on the roof will produce far more power for far less faff.
