Please be patient with me I think I'm missing a bit of the essential knowledge.

I've been thinking that this type of system would be useful, as ipads are don't pick up weak WiFi signals very well.
But I'm confused, there seems to be three functions mentioned here.
1. a powered antenna to pick up weak remote WiFi signal.
2. something to logon to that signal.
3. something to spread that internet out to several users and produce a local hotspot.

What I don't understand is which piece of kit does what. Do I need to buy three items?, two or one.
An (extreme) idiot's guide would be useful.

If you had anything but an Ipad one device would do, the high gain antenna with a usb connector. The Solwise usb box will allow you to log on to the signal received by the antenna and re-radiate it as your local wifi hotspot. So only 2 devices needded
