Am about to do an HPI check on a Roller Team Zefiro. When I enter the reg, it comes up as a Roller Team Scout, not Zefiro. Wondering why this might be and whether alarm bells should be ringing
Any thoughts please

Could it be that it is called Zefiro in another country and Scout over here (I don't know much about Roller Team vehicles) but, as above, I would be suspicious?

I’m not sure but will look into it. The thing is, when I Google Roller team Scout, I get nothing, I can’t find any models called that.

we’ve been looking at Roller Teams for a while now and. I’ve never heard of a Scout model. Really odd.

Also I’m thinking when we came to sell it, potential buyers would probably do a check like we have, this discrepancy will show up (even if there’s a good reason for it) and alarm bells will ring

So I think we will leave this one which is a shame because it appeared really nice but you need to feel 100% don’t you

My guess would be that Scout is the old discontinued name and the range is now called Zefiro. Maybe this one was on the cusp. 🤷‍♂️

Mine is a 2009 roller team that we have owned from new, when I checked the logbook a few years ago, it is registered as a “CI Motorhome” and that’s it. Caravan International is another badging used for these models. Mot check says it’s a ford transit, tax checker says it a CI motorhome. If their is a paper trail with the vehicle to the registering dealer then I cannot see a problem. (I have original invoice when new stating CI motorhome) Just be careful if it has been a hire vehicle, some are bought direct from italy and imported by hire company, it’s not a problem being a ex hire vehicle but you open a new can of worms. chattel mortgages are used on some hire vehicles and do not show up on hpi checks, so from a good reputable dealer not a concern but a private sale I would do a lot more checks.

It is from RV super centre who appear to be legit, but I’ve found out they do sell ex hire and the vehicle has been with them for about 18 months, I have just found out from the HPI check ( although they have told me the owner has now emigrated and they’ve bought the vehicle back to sell as they sold it to her initially) so not quite transparent theee maybe?

Scout looks like a hire model from hertz/just go, I think just go buy from factory and original graphic added after hire has finished.

That would make sense as this is the RV super centre,

Oh thank you! So it would have been called a scout from new and branded for hire purposes and then branded with Zefiro after the hire period? Have I understood that right?

It concerns me that the hpi says Scout, would that ever be changed or would it appear like that to any potential purchaser of the van when we came to sell (we plan on keeping it for around 5 years). I just worry about putting off potential purchasers, in the way that alarm bells are ringing for me😬. It is a shame though as it was lovely.

Another issue is how smacked up might it have been from being hired if they’ve had it for 18 months or so? No way of knowing really

Just go did a hire package, which they flew you to factory, and you then drove the brand new motorhome back for them.

'Just go' also has a Coach Tour business.

Another concern is warranty, being an ex-hire vehicle it probably doesn't have one.

It says it comes with 12 months warranty
I mean from the manufacturer, it'll likely be an insurance backed one which is no-where near as good, it may also mean there's no water ingress warranty - you need to check the full details to be certain.

Our Burstner Lyseo 727G comes up on DVLA as 'Burstner'. That's it! No mention of particular model at all. Wouldn't hpi checks be similar?

What it is registered as is down to the original supplying dealer and they could just have been lazy about what they filled in the form.

Motorhomes, coach builts, van conversions aren't as specific about models as a mass factory produced car.

If you like the zefiro I'm sure you will find one out there that is a private seller .
What was the year & mileage of the one you were looking at.

Nothing wrong with ex hire vehicles as long as you go in with your eyes wide open.

  • It is unlikely to have a manufacturer's warranty of any sort.
  • Although you may get a dealer warranty of some sort.
  • It will have been built to a particular spec, with some of the 'nice' things never installed.
  • All items installed will be the cheaper options.
  • It's likely to have been fairly heavily used internally.
  • Mileage may be higher than one would expect for age.
  • I'd be very surprised if it has not got a few dings on the outside.
  • Check the roof! Check the panel between the wheels on the left side, Check underneath at the back. All classic places for motorhome damage .
None of which is a reason not to buy, as long as the price reflects this.

Check the accessories!!!!
You are liable to find items like wing mirrors, the loo cassette, the fuel cap, basically anything that can be unbolted may have been swapped with other vehicles in the fleet and therefore not match.

Also check for minimum accessories, ramps, EHU cable, Screen blind, spare tyre and jack, bike rack, drain hose, oven inserts like grill tray, manuals, cushions and inserts,

(Ask that the spare bed can actually be made and not some bit of wood or foam is missing)

It will have a bottom of the range tracker, you may or may not be able to take over the contract. But you need to know.

You may find your insurance company will insist on a Thatcham tracker, alarm and engine blocker.
Get yourself down to VanBitz the day you pick it up and they will install the lot in a day.

Gas bottles. It probably will not come with any.
If you are intending on spending more than 2 weeks in Europe anytime soon then look at installing a GasLow or other refillable system (again VanBitz can install)

I'd also look at fitting a solar panel and battery master as they would not be fitted to a ex hire vehicle as standard (Another VanBitz item)

You will need to add £2-3K to your budget for the extras

If you know anyone with a similar level of van, get them to take a look. They may spot missing items or damage that you do not.

It was a 2016
44,000 miles

I’m sure there will be more about … I was under the impression that it would be less “risky” buying from a motorhome dealer haha

Mileage is fine for age.
But has it been in a hire fleet for 7 years !
Most hire fleets sell off their van after one or two seasons, sometimes to cheaper hire fleets who get a couple more seasons and then sell on..

If it was sold after one or two seasons to a private buyer for 5 years who has then sold to the dealer, then you would expect most of the niggles to have been resolved, in which case, other than it will be a slightly lower spec van, it should be fine.

(I'd still check it as though it was ex hire though!)

Thank you Brains that’s an amazing amount of info there, great to know all those things.

I’ve been reassured there are no dent dings or broken bits whatsoever so maybe they’ve given it a good going over, mileage is 44,000 on a 2016 plate but it’s had a private owner for the last few years. It has a solar panel, no bike rack, but unsure about the other things, if we go further with it I will def check and I’m very grateful for the heads up 😊

I purchased my 259p Rollerteam Scout in 2016 from justgo, I have had no issues. If the vehicle doesn't come back as Rollerteam I would be concerned. Ex hire vehicles are what they are as far as I can see, a cheaper built van..
Just go sold the van with everything included after a year they still do I believe.

west ham man I wouldn’t have a problem if it had been sold as a Scout, it’s just as it’s been sold as a zefiro and doesn’t match the HPI which says scout
But I do get what’s happened now
Thank uou

Roller team are in the same group as Autotrail who have a Scout maybe the dealer got confused if he also sells Autotrail and they are a similar layout.
