Hi all, I have an add running in Facebook Marketplace. It's in its third week and up to now no one has been to see it.
Please have a look if the link works and tell me what puts you off a as buyer.
Yes its cat s but no structural damage as I have said in the add. The car only needed a wing, bumper and a headlight its a
cracking little car with zero road tax and cheap to insure. Full service history and genuine 23000 miles. Since covid most accident damaged cars are viewed over the internet
and engineers often get it wrong.
This car should have been cat n, Thanks John.

I don't do Faecesbook so can't see it but everything sells if the price is right.
As a subscriber you can advertise it in the For Sale section.

I’d try an advert elsewhere tbh and try checking the price against similar repair category cars.

FB is not somewhere that I'd consider buying a car from ... here, or Autotrader maybe, not FB - sorry!

Probably not what you want to hear but the price coupled with the cat s would put me off.

Auction it to the highest bidder, then you will find it’s worth. I just saw a much newer Picanto with similar history to yours, but lower miles, currently the highest bid is around 3.5k if that helps.
I once bought a cat D Hyundai Getz at a bargain price as a starter car for one of my daughters. I understood that when it was time to sell it would not make as much as a car without recorded damage.

Insurance write-off categories at a glance

  • A. Scrap
  • B. Break
  • S. Structurally damaged repairable
  • N. Non-structurally damaged repairable
So its a cat S as far as insurance is concerned it's sustained Structural damage as above, chassis, suspension etc, not just cosmetic... Wing, bumper etc.
Whether the assessor was right or wrong it's still got an S against it.

I can't see anyone being able to insure it to be honest as its classed as 'scrap' so that may be one reason why no-one has bothered but if you have got insurance on it that may not be applicable. What I suspect you're gonna have to do is get it reclassed as Cat N, I assume you can prove it shouldn't have been Cat S, then you might have more luck.

We bought a Cat N scooter which had mainly cosmetic damage from just a couple of weeks after it was registered (I think the first owner had dropped it), the second owner had mostly fixed it with just some cosmetic stuff to sort out (we never bothered though as). We were able to insure it after having a MOT done (it was less than 2 years old) and the MOT guy confirming in a letter that it was safe etc. We never bothered sorting out the scuffs/scratches and when we sold it we told the buyer its full history but still got a fair bit more than we paid for it.

Surely it won't owe the owner (you?) anything if the insurer has paid out (or very much if it was bought back from the insurer at nominal/scrap cost which is something I have done a couple of times with motorbikes).

cat s is repairable damage not scrap you cant get the assessors category changed the cat s stays even after the work is completed

Looking at your ad, I thinkit would be a good young starter car,but being a cat S no one would get insurance on it, and the price is too steep,,,just my opinion,,good luck with the sale (y)

Looks good, very clean and shiny.

EDIT-
Hadn't realised what CAT S was, now I know…….I wouldn’t buy it at that price!

Having read the following article, it's maybe a car I would keep if already owned before the repairs, but not one I would buy.

Class S & N cars explained.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
Yes just run it into the ground. If it’s any consolation I never do well selling stuff either, some are lucky some are not.

Stuff doesn‘t sell for two reasons: Either it’s too dear,or it’s crap. Sometimes it’s both.

Sold my Jag first day on FB for over a grand more then We buy any car offered.

I sold my motorbike on there and got my asking price, was probably about what a dealer would be asking.

I've owned and bought Cat S vehicles...Insured them all every time, not that much extra to be fair.
I had a Volvo C70, convertible, it was my pride and joy, best car I have ever owned. Whilst on holiday some bloke drove straight into the back of me, car was written off by Insurance company as Cat S as the structural damage was all around the boot area, and they decided that it wasn't worth repairing.
I bought it off them, had it repaired, and retested for structural issues, and all passed and I carried on driving that car for about 3 years, and I then sold it on Flea Bay for about 2 grand, which was about £500 less than I paid for it 5 years before.
Cat S is not great, but there are some good bargains to be had, just be careful.....

My only comment is that, I think, you have to look at the last picture to see it is a '14'.

Can you park it at the side of the road somewhere. Sold a few cars over the years parked on the grass at the side of the bungalow. Once sold a 4 year old BMW, within an hour to a neighbour. The price is about right to allow a bit of haggling.
Try gumtree but be ready for every twat and his brother with stupid offers.
Good luck

I think you will find that is illegal, used to get a lot on the main road near us until the police took action hardly ever see any now.

Just looked at your ad for a cat s it's steep we have a 2014 picanto but ours is a 4 door with the far better 1250cc engine year full dealer service history 17000 miles and not a mark on it book price around 3400 that was offered but I refused it as no tax very cheap ins it costs nothing to own

The lowest of low prices but an easy way to sell, if you can afford to chuck money away, you will always get the lowest price from webuyanycar or similar companies. Not surprised at all you got £1k more selling it privately. Just for fun I asked them for a price for a BMW I own and they came back with £3500, the local specialist sports car garage has already offered to sell it SOR at £8000 and would retail at £8995. Mind you would never part with it as it is 17 years old, convertible, has 18000 miles on the clock and is concours.

Re the picanto, I would as others have said either try putting put it on ebay as an auction.

CAT S will put buyers off, you need a bigger price differential between yours and a 'straight' car.
Difficult to achieve on a car of this value. The problem is, would you buy this car for your son or daughter to drive when an additional £500 will buy a non accident effected vehicle?
May be worth showing pictures of damaged caused, stating when it took place and how many miles driven since.
Advertise in Autotrader, for three wks and adjust price down every wk until sold.
Dont get to emotional or fixated on price, its only worth what a buyer will pay.
Sometimes we have to take a loss and move on.
Best of luck.

My land. Being doing it for 25 years and never had an issue. I guess the issue is when they are not taxed / insured and its public land.

I think it depends on the local council's attitude, ours got fed up when the same guy was parking ½ doz or more cars along the road with for sale signs on them. Police put unauthorised trading signs on them saying they would be removed in 7 days.
It's legal if you get a street traders licence for it but I don't think you would have much luck with that.
