I am new to this
I needed advice, found the site and got the answer I needed. So if you take something give something back. You can only do this by becoming a Funster. Glad I did

since 2006 ( I think ! )
I accidentally subscribed to a certain other site with a similar name and initials ..
I was so disgusted with the general attitude on there I very nearly sold the first van we had straight away as I just did not want to be associated with such people.
Mentioned it to Scottie who was surprised at what I said.. then realised what I had done and put me straight.

Even then I was still not convinced we had made the right move and the experience on the first site tainted my view for some time... I well remember ( with a great deal of embarrassment ) our first meet with Funsters .. It was at the Peterborough show..
I had NO idea what to expect back then, and when I arrived to find I had paid £40 to park in a field what seemed like miles away from the show I was somewhat miffed to say the least
Poor Pamela ( Pamela and Nigel ) got the sharp edge as I am not one to hold back.. ( hence the embarrassment !! )

But that first meet was a real eye opener .. Within 24 hours both Woman and I felt right at home..

Why ?
Very hard to quantify really.
Most human beings are friendly so while Funsters are indeed friendly folk nowt unusual there
Most people are by nature helpful.. So nowt unusual there
Most folk involved in the scene are pretty laid back , , again Funsters are not really any different to everyone else

Which leaves what ?
No idea really !! ( so this post is of no value at all really !! )

Except perhaps................................................

1) The members who use the forum are in general the same when met as when they post.. No 'airs and graces' no matter what the medium used
2) The massive diversification of interest
3) The knowledge base and the willingness to pass on that knowledge without any attitude attached
4) The meets.

Number 4 for us is the biggy.
Woman ( god forbid she reads this ! ) is not exactly a big social animal.
Do not get me wrong.. She has partied as hard as anyone over the years but as time has gone by she seems to be more and more 'fussy' about who she calls friend
Yet almost from the start she has made friends and has been willing and happy to meet with new folk at every 'do' we attend.
I trust her judgement of character implicitly.. If she reckons people are ok then you can bet your sweat bippy they are ( Mind you, she thought I was ok at one time which does kinda throw a spanner in that particular theory !!! )

I have subscribed because we are beginners and after reading past threads the information was brilliant. One of the main reasons is that it has a dedicated thread for disabled owners .

Three reasons for me:

1. It's a useful source of information on pretty much anything because there's so many really old people here, and they know so much more about the things that matter than mere 50 something youngsters like me.

2. It's a good laugh winding up the Daily Mail readership in the current affairs threads

3. I can interact with you all from the safety of my own home without having to meet any of you in real life and risk having my morals corrupted. :)

One year. A whole one!
I was only looking for the toilets and took a wrong turn....

But, seriously...

I tend to search for specialist forums to seek knowledge and advice before making automotive purchases, so this is primarily why I became a member.

I knew nothing of 'the other place' as 'Fun was the first forum that came up from Google. Coincidentally, it was also a link to an excellent thread on here that a friend of mine found regarding RMB's and storage. I subsequently bought an RMB and Udo is stored in the same place. So that helped considerably.

So, beyond that, what else?

Well, I was taken with the very friendly welcome I received here and was immediately invited to gatherings. I'm not the easiest person to take to and so I avoid such things, but it was appreciated all the same.

And beyond the welcome, there's been much useful and respected help and advice to my own questions. There's also been a degree of encouragement given to buy the model I did. And that's good.

It's the enthusiasm, atmosphere and passion that's key. 'Nuff said.
