Why? Couldn't chemical waste points be improved? Some are horrendous.

I'm a newbie
Am new to this Motor homing. Can I ask why the chemical waste (brown waste) points are so big. Used a few and some a lot better than others. As for the splash back, horrendous. Why not a 6 inch pipe, once poured, never seen? No risk of splash back, no hosing away afterwards. Just gone, down the black pipe, never to be seen.....

Is it just me, don't want to see what's in the tank? What I did in the morning or what anyone else has done. Or the afters from the night before. It's white, even worse. Could be brown. Even at night its lite up.

What are the best ones, worse ones. Campsites

need some feedback.

Jim tried to collect a s**tload (see what I did there?) of Elsan photos - both good and bad examples:

Your example actually looks quite reasonable. Yes OK you don't necessarily want to watch everything as your cassette disgorges it's contents, but on the other hand if you took your suggested approach of only the end of a 6" pipe to stick your nozzle in can you imagine the mess from those who can't aim?

Oh and splashback is far reduced if you press the air release valve on the cassette as you invert it, whilst avoiding dropping the discharge from any height.

What's wrong with a largely spaced grating on the floor? You can just pour in the cassette or drive over and open up the black tank!

Many forget the magic button on the cassette unit.

Currently building a CL site and I must admit I took a while to decide the best option for the black stuff. I did consider just leaving a 110mm pipe sticking out of the ground however I am sure the local rabbits would pile in and fill up the tank.

Installed a drive over grid for grey and fresh water empty but agree with Sedge not suitable method for the black tanks. I only hope that no one attempts to let the black go there I will be seriously angry.

You'll need to let them know. This is pretty standard in many countries.

I hope so, just ordering signage in case somebody forgets. Our CWDP is a box that sits on a manhole, you lift the lid and empty the cassette contents. On most visits to campsites I have noticed that people will clean up any spillages they make, I have not seen a really bad empty point yet.

On one of our favourite Aires there is a 110mm pipe standing up to waist height with an
short elbow at the top and with a screw cap on it which is attached by chain so cannot be lost when open.

The cassette nozzle can fit well into the pipe before 'letting go' so no danger of missing.

Seems like best solution that we have found.

And signage that they do not use the fresh drinking water tap for cleaning out the cassette

Hubby caught someone doing that on Monday - doesnt often lose his temper but he did that day

I put one in at home on the same principal.
But mine is low to the ground using a rodding eye that is just over 4” diameter 😊

I find the ones with lids the worse , if it's just an open hole box or whatever you have no need to touch anything, whereas you never know what's on the lids, and loads of them are complicated to open with a bit of rope or something or they fall down when you are emptying.
An old toilet with no lid is my favourite.

Daft as it may seem, but at home I use the rodding eye on the driveway which at first I though was ONLY for "Non Foul" (Surface) water, Like from roof gutters etc;. However running a test with a hose to see where it goes, showed it finished up in the Foul sewer!. When I was self building I was warned NOT to connect the 2?, and had a Soak-away dug just for "surface water", which believe it or not, qualified us for a reduction in water rate?. But it seems the builders of this property (1980`s) connected to the foul sewer.!. When we bought this property, we lived in the R-V on the drive for Months, I just ran the 3" hose into this connection and put sandbags over the end to stop Fumes.

I think the answer is in the fact that, Most blokes (and it`s 99% blokes who dump) can`t aim to save their lives, the Mess around most Pub Urinals says it all! They need nice big Trough`s to make a decent job of it!.

Oi!!!! It is usually me who does the cassette (and last time I checked I was definitely not a bloke)

As long as the facility is clean and accessible (not too high to lift a full and heavy cassette) and preferably in the open air I am happy. I've seen all sorts of disposal facilities from the inverted pyramid to a loo set in concrete. Being able to clean the disposal point is also important. I hate leaving anything in less than pristine condition.

We lift a manhole at home.

Black tank discharge is just liquid as it has been through a macerator so should be no problem at all, it's the cassette's with wet wipes in that are the real problem on grates.

An old toilet with no lid is my favourite.
Mine too - especially if it has a flush. Second favourite is the one pictured in the OP. I have no objection to seeing what comes out as long as I don't have to come into contact with it. Or anyone elses.

Not all, in fact very few, R-V`s have a macerator as standard. Most just dump via the 3" hose. (As per the film R-V as well sometimes!). Robin Williams got covered in Glory!.

Edit:- on a serious note the vast majority of US campgrounds have proper sewer access at your pitch.

P.S. You can`t beat a good breakfast time "Toilet Thread".(y)

The worst one I found was in Spain , wooden hut ( clean ) , toilet ( being used as chemical point ) plumbed in ( clean ) , sink ( clean ) , it was only a couple of days later whilst rambling / ambling down the back lane ( in a cut down the bank behind the CDP hut ) that I found that the toilet was not plumbed in to anything and was just discharging down the bank ! Disgusting!

The worst I saw was a chap washing his cassette in the dish-washing sink because 'it had hot water'. When I pointed out the error of his ways he then wiped everywhere down with the same cloth, I despair.

At Silverstone GP a few years ago campers were taking cassettes into the tardis toilets and leaving a mess. Annoying as the site had provided a CWDP facility the other end of the field, but too far to walk for some.

Ah another toilet thread... My favourist subject of them all.
I personally (maybe I was dropped at birth) get great pleasure of the simple task of dumping poos n piss.
NOT because of the action of emptying loo BUT I love to watch the antics that some people get up too when emptying theirs.
For God's sake dumpy loo washy hands.. simples

Hate the ones on sites that have a fixed grid over hole and a branch to push it through or the upright boxes where everything is inside fresh water and dump

The sanitary block at Lauterbrunnen is very high tec inside , close to it is a old school mh Bourne, that's not used much. One day a guy tipped his wc cassette out onto the grid for waste water of the Bourne.
It provided entertainment, to the many passers by, as he tried to move his "stuff" that was clinging to the dry grille . :ROFLMAO:

In my defence, I think I was born with a 110 degree spray head, instead of the jet version.
