This new Covid world has a lot of new people looking in on motorhomefun. The realisation that the cruise or the fly-drive holiday has gone for the foreseeable future, means that plenty are looking at the motorhome or caravan as an option for future holidays.

It's a big expensive outlay and they might be worried about making it. As an enthusiast, what would you say to them to encourage them? What are the joys of motorhomes as you see them? Whether big picture stuff or small details. Cheers (y)

One word sums it up for us, and that’s FLEXIBILITY.
Being able to take off at a moments notice, and heading in a direction where the sunshine is, or wherever takes you fancy.
We done hotels, b&b’s, self catering etc etc for many years, which are great, but you are very much tied to specific dates.
Although it’s not a cheap alternative, and in reality if you take everything into account, actually costs more I would say overall, once you have done it, you will never look back.

If you have a family I can't think of a better way of enjoying time together. Travelling with kids in a motorhome really is fun, and not the ordeal you might endure when doing long distances with bored kids in the back of a car.

The togetherness that travel in a motorhome brings to a family is fantastic. Eating, sleeping, exploring and playing together really does build strong bonds. If you have a young family I can't recommend a motorhome highly enough. And it's not just for holidays, a motorhome can be kept ready to go, so weekend breaks, no matter what the weather is doing, can be taken easily; extracting every last bit of fun from your investment.

It has allowed us to:
  • easily revisit childhood memories
  • visit some amazing new places and then stay as long or as short as we want
  • move to another view if the mood takes us
  • sit and relax, with friends around a BBQ, beer in hand, and no-one has to drive afterwards...
  • See places and things in the UK, I would never have seen without a motorhome
  • Go somewhere and either walk, go for a cycle or just sit down and watch the world go by
And it meant we joined Motorhome Fun... ::bigsmile:

Purchasing a motorhome is the best decision we ever made.

You can make it as cost effective as you want, just as you would if you were to book a holiday through a travel operator. Whether your desire is for a budget escape or to indulge yourselves in pure luxury, motorhomes can provide it all.

Best of all, it's on your terms, within your own space (we refer to ours as our holiday home on wheels) and if you don't like where you are, or wish to find better weather, you have that ultimate choice to when and where you go.

Its having the freedom to virtually go where you want when you want for as long as you want be it home Europe or even North Africa
rally's or fun meets even a weekend fishing

as a plus for me for 5 years when semi retired and working away from home I saved on average £6000 per year on hotel fees
that alone paid initial cost of our M/H

You can visit so many places that you otherwise miss.
Freedom to roam, almost at will.
The ability to plan your route to the nth degree, or just go where the mood takes you.
Quality time together.
The increased ability to appreciate the culture of other countries that you don’t get on a packaged hotel holiday.

Probably, to sum it up, it is the one form of holiday that leaves us totally relaxed doing what we want, when we want.

Total stress reliever; once behind the wheel I was always on holiday. A busy working life for my wife and I meant that our MH was THE holiday wherever we went - and boy, did we travel! Europe, UK and to all sorts of places no package holiday would have done. Fond memories of travels with my late wife, and since her demise I still carry on travelling all over the UK, to France and Spain and on to Morocco. I was even lucky enough to be able to tour the western USA for 8 months in a fifth wheeler, now there's another story. I shall not miss a vehicle more than when I have to give up the MH - but hopefully not yet!

Camping holidays with the children and a plan to buy a motorhome in retirement, I could never persuade Nick to tow a caravan, a trailer tent was enough! We had a sod it moment a few years before retirement after the premature death of a dear friend and bought an old Autosleeper Symbol ES.

Whilst googling a problem with that van on a campsite in France we found Motorhomefun in 2012 and that really has added an extra dimension to our lives and subsequent retirement. New friends, new experiences with the rallies and even Benidorm!

Obviously we still have family and friends who are nothing to do with motorhomes but it’s motorhoming that is the icing on our cake!

It gives us a ‘Holiday Cottage’ by the coast, an ’apartment‘ in whichever town or city we want to visit, and a ‘Lodge’ in the woods and Forrests we camp in.

All without packing a suitcase, or hanging around stations or airports, as the fun begins as we turn out of the gate.

With two sons in New Zealand and a daughter in America, which seems to take all our money to see yearly, we bought the van to have cheaper holidays and have never looked back. It’s our home from home, ready to go when we want and some great memories of European holidays.

To us its a lifestyle rather than just a motorhome for holidays, its also provide hours of family fun we wouldn't get sitting on a sun lounger at an all inclusive hotel.

We visited places we'd never even heard of, we've met and made friends with some lovely people. It's certainly been a great way to bring up a family as we've been motorhoming since our daughter was 10 and she absolutely loved it, so much that she has the travel bug now.

As we both still work full time we find it great for just popping away somewhere local for the night, we drive less than 50 miles from home on a Friday night and with in 10 mins of setting up we feel we could be anywhere in the world and all our troubles are at at home.

We are relatively new to motorhoming only doing it for 6 years, but I get excited every time we plan a trip and then get behind the wheel and set off

Then the pleasure of arriving and sitting down with a cup of tea ( why does it always taste better than at home?) and a slice of the Beauty Terrorists cake.... Bliss, contentment, relaxation and happiness.....

All of the above, but I can now self isolate elsewhere. I don’t need to come into contact with anyone else if I don’t want to. With exception, garage for petrol - pay at pump, wearing gloves, empty loo - never get that close to someone else emptying, wear gloves, fill water - wear gloves and aim water at hole in water caddy. No use of supplied pipes, hoses etc, again wearing gloves?. Still able to apply 2mtr distance.
Dogs love the Mh, so do we. My home, my bed, my kitchen, my clothes, my bathroom, my cafe, my pub. What’s not to like!

What better vehicle to be comfortable inside while stuck in a traffic jam on our crowded motorways! :gum:

Beats being stuck in a car that has no fridge or loo. (n)

Having our own bolt hole.............anywhere!

No airport lounges, no baggage charges/allowances, no transfers.

Knowing what the accommodation is like and the cleanliness of it before we get there.

Stopping for a cuppa (Tetleys) anytime, and a sandwich at a very cheap price.

No rush, no timescale, no problem. Fun, Freedom, and Friendship.
