Himself set off at 06.30 to take MH to Lincoln for a service and check on gearbox prior to going to France this week. 5 minutes later he phoned to tell me that someone had run into him.
A lady overtook him on a hatched central white line, left hand bend, she didn't quite get past.
She was very apologetic and left her details I arrived and took photos.
Do I need to tell our insurance and if so will it affect our premium next time round?

Yes, inform your insurance co, they will need to be involved unless the person who crashed into you is willing to pay for all repairs and you trust them to do so ?

It sounds as if it would be registered by your insurance company as a no fault claim. It would help if you negotiate with the third party insurance company or their claim handling company yourself rather than asking your insurance co. to do it, then it shouldn't affect your NCB

This information was posted a few years ago, and I am afraid that I cannot recall by whom, to give credit where it is due:

<quote>To prevent any Claim against you in a NO FAULT CLAIM. Follow this procedure-

Write to the other driver claiming against him/her. They will have to notify their insurance company if they want to be covered.

You must notify your insurance company that there was an accident. Write very clearly 'This is not a claim' - for information only. Enclose a copy of the letter to the other driver.

Your insurers will probably send you a 'Claim Form', because it is the only form they have to obtain information (and it traps people into having made a claim) Provide the information they request but cross through the words 'Claim Form' and notate beside the crossing out that this is for information only/not a claim. Send a covering letter stating the same, copy that to your Broker, if any.

You have not made a claim. The consequence is they cannot try to do knock-for-knock and later claim they settled. If they did you would have recourse to the Insurance Ombudsman.<end quote>

The other driver is insured with Churchill. I have just been telephoned by them. They say the other driver has accepted full responsibility, I don't need to contact my insurers, just take it to a repairers for a quote and they will arrange payment. They offered me a hire car until I told them what they would be replacing.
I wish all insurers were as good.

Still a big nuisance for you with the imminent departure for Covid wracked France though! Hope it is not too serious.

It's driveable ( not sure if that's a word). It's going in for a quote late today. I'm sure it will get us back to France, it's just the embarrassment factor, but as I do all the driving when we are both travelling it will need a sign to say that it wasn't my fault.
We are not going to France on holiday, we are packing up the house ready for a move.

Your insurance will still go up at next renewal, by a small amount, your Insurance Co, will charge you extra as you are now a bigger risk. There was a discussion on here about this very thing a few weeks ago.

If that is not a quote from me it is from someone who writes just like me.

Thanks for quoting that as it saves me writing the same.

Despite Churchill conacting you you still need to inform your insures as per the method quoted.

I think whoever quoted this originally had some legal knowledge, and if it was you then thank you for making it available in the first place
