eaders would be interested to know that these two feeble looking bits of plastic really do work!

“Grip traction mats”

I have owned a pair for a few years now and never had to use them until I got stuck,on a flat muddy patch at a pub stop in Bridlington.
I was sceptical to say the least but with a bit of thought and correct positioning they did the trick.

At a very wet site in the Peak District a fully loaded transit mh stuck on a fairly steep field ,wheels spinning,no chance!
I remembered the mats and asked him if he would like to try them .
With myself and another camper pushing we managed what I thought wasn’t possible!
These cheap bits of plastic really do work,up to a point I’m sure , but they worked today !

Regards,
John and sweep the dog !

Once someone has had their wheels spin on wet grass the tyre tread blinds and they are stuffed without assistance.
We carry mats and they get moved to the car for the winter.
Cant remember when I last needed to use them but they are there if needed.

Used grip mats only once, when we parked up, to stop the front wheels sinking into a soft grassy field. Always carry them.

Only time I used mine consisted of me feeding them in at the front and the stick-in-the-mud spitting them out at the back.

I helped a Dutch couple off their pitch in Normandy a few years back.

He was revving the hell out of his van and there was mud flying everywhere.

I got my mats out and he reversed at full speed and drove off.

Not even a thank you. Ignorant Dutch git:mad:

Probably sniffed a lawyer's fee bill.

If the ground is at all soft, I deploy them when I park up. From the deflection of the mats you can see just how much the wheels can sink in in only a couple of days. Trying to drive out when you are already in a hollow before you begin is a recipe for problems without mats.

I carry 3 sets as they are easy to store around my water tank. A few years ago in the snow parked facing downhill. i pulled a set out and within 30s out and away .

A few years ago we were on the campsite at La Romieu, owned by a lovely Dutch couple.

When we were due to leave I realised that the ground was so soft that I would probably spin the wheels and dig in. Not wanting to ruin the pitch I went to reception and told them. The owner thanked me and brought a mini tractor round to tow me off the pitch.

Unfortunately, he started to tow before I managed to release the handbrake with the result that my locked wheels scoured two 3 metre long furrows across the pitch.

Sometimes you just can’t win.
