We are a 8.2m 6ton motorhome.
which company would you recommend.
We are members of both clubs plus we have a Natwest black account.
Opinions and experiences please.

We have breakdown with our insurance, caravan guard. They have performed faultlessly when needed. Usually for things like nibbled wires(didn’t know it at time) within the hour, repaired onsite of storage. Low Loaded home this year, worked well. Although the drivers dun half have loads of breaks🥴

Rac arrivals through ccc we are 8.6 you may have to wait for Low loader

Assuming the Nat West Black Account is the same as the RBS one then you have Green Flag Breakdown included as part of the account.

Funnily enough I was trying to find out if there any size/weight restrictions on it yesterday as I could find anything that said there was but got bored and ended doing something else.

If you find out can you confirm on here please?

No actual experience of Green Flag yet so perhaps other could share experiences.

We used Green flag for a car breakdown through our bank and it was good service. I'm awaiting a call back from Green flag to ascertain if the motorhome is not covered how much extra will it be and will that cover Europe.

Nationwide flex plus account and its you that is covered not the vehicle so if out with somebody or family you are covered in their vehicle.

I've been repatriated from Spain on the bike.
And helped twice in the Moho in France.
All with Green Flag.

And the bonus is if you only want a short cover, you can pay for a year, then cancel when home and get full pro rata refund :)

We have used Gem for years. Again, it you that is covered in any vehicle. Only once need recovery in a car and they were faultless. Called them a few times to the motorhomes and they have, with one exception, fixed the issue on the spot.

Oh man where shall I begin with my Natwest Private Black Account Green Flag cover!!! I have used them previously without fault for a car a few years ago. In January we bought a new to us TAG Frankia; 8.4m long and 5t, I called NatWest/Green Flag when purchased and they informed me that my cover through my bank account had no limitations, happy days, I thought!!!!! how wrong could I be. Last Friday some 300 miles from home the clutch went on our Frankia (another long story in another thread), I called Green Flag from a service station on the M11 and they informed me that my cover was restricted to a 7m van and 3.5t…. I explained that I had previously called etc, and was told there were no restrictions. After +3hrs of numerous calls and frustrations, I finally got through to somebody who had the authority to try and trace the call in January and listen to it…..1hr later they called back and confirmed that they had listened to my call in January and that I could not have been more descriptive about my van and that the operator did indeed say that there was no limitations on my cover. They confirmed as a “good will gesture” that they would honour my cover this one time! We then waited a further 4hrs for a recovery truck to arrive, who was expecting a single axle caravan to recover! Long story short we were recovered some 11hrs after my first call to Green Flag. We live in Cornwall and the van is apparently at a recovery company in Slough and we have been told it should be dropped of to the garage we requested by the end of this week! Thankfully we had our Tow Car with us and we’re able to make our own way home when the van was loaded on to the truck. The whole experience was a complete nightmare. Be warned that your Natwest Private Black Account DOES NOT cover your Motorhome if it is over 7m and 3.5t!

We have mayday through cmc, it uk green flag with no limits, (unlike green flag direct limited cover) we have the top cover (about £130) covers me, wife with any vehicle and trailer and named daughters car. They have never bothered trying to repair, just always send a recovery truck to do the journey in one hit. Did get a voucher from them once for not attending within an hour. Works for us.

Yes, I think we will end up going with the CMC Mayday cover, albeit it is with Green Flag!

Unfortunately GEM only cover up to 3500kgs on a MoHo, size would be ok for us but not weight!

Nationwide flex cover is £13 a month plus you get holiday insurance mobile phone insurance and other benefits.

We have AA and couldn’t fault them. Our previous moho required 4 recoveries last year - excellent service.

After careful consideration I went for full cover with all the bells and whistles which includes Europe, this cost us £269 a year through the camping and caravan club.
Our breakdown is with our Motorhome insurance now we are out of warranty. With Safeguard. But quite dear.

Our American C Class RV of around 27ft long was transported within the West Midlands by RS Recovery. The driver was very helpful and offloaded the non-drivable RV onto our front garden, which was not a straight forward task.

How about looking at horse riding forums to find out who they recommend for dealing with larger vehicles?

Just a thought.

Cheers James

I wouldn’t recommend the RAC. My battery gave out, plates shorted and leaked. The RAC patrol wouldn’t touch it and said it needed recovering. The RAC then said my vehicle, a long wheelbase transit, was too long for their vehicles and quoted me £835 for a ‘commercial’ recovery. I declined. Bought a new battery for £85, replaced it myself with no issues and it’s been fine ever since! - they’re a rip off company!
Found this thread looking for a decent company.
