white-tail

Just seen a white-tailed eagle flying south-to-north up the loch at the bottom of the driveway - got his (her?) tail spread wide so absolutely unmistakable.
We do get them here, and there's a pair nest on one of the islands, but they aren't exactly 'common'!

I went through all the ritual thoughts while I was grabbing the binoculars:

• that's a big bird
• probably a buzzard
• the buzzards aren't usually over the water
• actually it's further out than I thought
• so it's bigger than I thought

(now with binoculars to eyes)
