Interestingly I've looked again at the Castrol search and it recommends
7 litres of 5w40 for a 3 litre
BUT
9.7 litres of 5w30 for the comfortmatic :Eeek:
I'm pretty sure my handbook doesn't say that and all four service receipts I have are 5w40 oil used.

Pretty sure mine is 5-40 for the old girl - she will be 26 next month.!
I look on the front for it to say for 'older diesel engines', but, as a chap who was helping me with her when she overheated stated... 'Any oil is better than fook oil' :winky: :ROFLMAO:

Actually, very few engines would prefer sickly old mineral oil rather than decent synthetic. Definitely will be filling up with fully synthetic for my 1960s era design engine when fully run in. However, with old engines, it is important to determine if the cam followers are roller or flat tappet design. All modern oils are unsuitable for flat tappets without the addition of zddp, which can be bought as a separate additive.

Having been involved in road haulage all my working life, I always used these with no problems whatsoever. High mileage vehicles working hard for a living.

I have recently changed to Lucas fully synthetic oils, made in the US. If they are good enough for dragsters, they are good enough for me.

Shell Rotella was also a good oil for hard worked diesels. My father always swore by it, but I preferred Morris's. Its each to there own I suppose.
