Which towbar for Fiat Ducato based Moho? (1 Viewer)

We've recently bought a 2018 Carado T449 which has a Ducato base.

I want to DIY fit a towbar, possibly with a rear beam as I may make a vertical kayak rack for it.

How do I identify which towbar I need without taking it somewhere?

I've fitted towbars to a variety of vehicles in the past, and it is a simple case of entering model or reg number into a website. Bit harder for the MoHo it seems.

I know the dimensions of the chassis at the back, and apparently it is widetrack.

It will depend upon which chassis it is, is it a full Fiat one or Fiat plus Alko extension or even a full Alko one.

Have a look underneath, if it’s lightweight construction for the last metre or so then it will be an Alko extended Fiat chassis. If it all looks a bit lightweight then it will be a full Alko. You should be able to tell if it’s a full Fiat one by it’s more solid construction.

Just had a look and that van is 7.43m long so will not be on a full Fiat chassis so either full Alko or Alko extension.

If its painted its Fiat, if its galvanised its Alko.
The front, under the cab, is ALWAYS Fiat.
From there back it can be either (full) or both. (fiat main & Alko rear extension)

Carado use a standard Fiat chassis cab.

I have just had a towbar fitted to a Fiat Ducato 7.47m and it's a beast!

Lots of chassis extention bars, spacers into the existing chassis to stop them collapsing etc etc.

Cost £1200 fitted, I would not want to do it myself.

just remember that post 2012 have to be homologated and you cannot alter/modify them unless it was originally homologated with them.
I.e you cannot fit a drop plate/riser unless the bar was tested originally & homologated to use one.

It’s 7.43 m long so don’t believe that will be the case.
Edit. If they do it will have an Alko extension.

Won't be an Al-Ko extension on a Fiat chassis it will be made by Corado/Hymer and only be there to support the garage. A towbar will have to be mounted on the main chassis. Don't forget a towbar weights at least 50 kg so will loose that from your payload and probably over 60 kg from the rear axle loading.
