This thread has been done before but I would like to bring it up to date.
There is so much expertise on this Forum, that I would like to ask again.
Is the Snipe2 still a good buy?. (Not convinced by dual LNB).
Avtex Sat TV the best kit to twin with it?
Roof Mounting apparently not recommended (by Avtex).
Remembering to lower Sat when driving away - wired solution?
Thanks, in anticipation of some words of wisdom.

Very old thread I know but this might help others searching.
I have just installed a secondhand Snipe 3 on the roof of my motorhome and it has a white wire on the power lead to connect to an ignition wire that will automatically park the dish when you start your vehicle.

Hi I have a snipe 2 and am extremely pleased with it, I have it coupled to a cello tv with integrated freesat tuner. The snipe is fitted to the roof and has been there for three years. Never heard of it not being recommended for roof fitting, considering that a roof fitting kit is supplied I would have thought avtex would have known better.

Same for us however Ferguson TV (re-badged Cello) and we use a Manhattan SX receiver as we prefer its EPG.

Regarding using the Manhattan is only because of the EPG, does the inbuilt satellite tuner work ok.
Just asking as I was looking at these tv’s.
Cheers

I have a Snipe 2 still working well after 3 years much better than the unreliable Snipe 1, the 3 is an improvement on the 2.
I use and Icecrypt tunner as the one in the Cello TV is a bit rubbish.

Surprised Avtex do not recommend fitting to roof..... I purchased my snipe 2 from Avtex who also supplied the roof bracket and recommended a fitter to install.....

We had a Snipe 2 with roof mount and roof mount fitting instructions. Not sure why Avtex would not recommend roof fitting, after all, it’s designed to be fitted on a roof.

Everything is good with the TV apart from the EPG which is a now and next and frequently doesn't update. The Manhattan has a 7 day EPG which works very well.

Thanks , I’ve got a Humax Freesat, which I’m pleased with and was just wondered about having it all in one unit.

As I think I said my cello tv has a good inbuilt freesat tuner, well it does everything that I need. Which is to watch satellite TV..

I found the Cello tuner a bit naff it takes ages to tune in, about 25min, every time you change satellites you have to retune it and it loses all your favorites.

Sh1t. I had better remove my Avtex from the roof then ... I must admit it was a bit awkward looking out of the roof light to watch, but now I know why ...
