I am having trouble understanding the 2001 Boxer model numbers.
My log book says 'Boxer 320 HDI MWB'.
Whenever I try to look for spare parts most listings refer to a 'Boxer 230L'.
My VIN is VF3232GL216039005, eng no 22203280082.

As it is the base for my 2001 Pilote Galaxy 270 A class, there is not much Boxer to look at just the dashboard really. It is not a facelift model with the extra cubby holes and large radio tray. Even looking at the headlamps may not help as they could have used different lights to fit the older moulding.

Have you tried e-mailing Peugeot Customer Services (or whatever they it) with your VIN and asking them for information?

Seems to be the most likely way forward.

Thanks, I have tried emailing Pilote about this and about tyre sizes. No reply on either. I will try Peugeo.
I searched Wiki and found the engine info but nothing about model numbers. Seems there are 23L, 230P, 244, 250, even some X models. None of that ties up with the 320, 330, 350 etc. Why have two numbering systems?

Which makes it a
244 chassis with a 8140.43S engine. As far as I can tell

do you know the horsepower?
If its the 146 bhp one then its a 43N not S and the 320 on the logbook is probably the torque as that engine is 320Nm.

TYRESIZETYPE
205X70X15 C TYRES

Thank you HandyAndy, I have been concerned about the tyre sizes. It has 205/70 15 fitted at the moment. However the Pilote handbook mentions 215/70 15.

Google seemed to suggest the 2001 2.8HDi engine is an Iveco 8140.43S at 94kw/126HP and 300Nm/220lb.ft. torque. I do not know what it really is or how to check. Would the '8140.43' number be on the engine somewhere?

So where do all these model numbers come from? It seems to be a secret society.

you'll need a mirror on a stick to get at it, its on the back of the inlet manifold.
Big white sticker with some bar codes on it. Should have the relevant info on there.

I was lucky, the sticker was on top of the engine 'rocker box' plastic cover and easy to read. It is an 8140.43S. I understand this engine is the 127HP version.

So it would seem it is a Peugeot Series I Boxer 320 MWB (X230) fitted with the Sofim 2.8HDi engine.

The X numbering system is from the Fiat Ducato, many parts suppliers use it as a convenient way of determining the different models for all Sevel vans.
Initial Boxer Series I (Series II for Ducato) vans from 1994 to 2001 are X230, facelift Series I (Series II) from 2002 to 2006 are X244 and Series II (Series III) vans from 2006 are X250.

I have also seen reference to 230L and 230P. .????

Hi 68c

For Peugeot's the 270 ,320 etc refers to gross vehicle weight. I seem to remember 320 means gvw of 3,200 kgs ...

Alongside length , SWB,MWB &Lwb

Doh I got your chassis wrong then! ?change over year was 2001 for x230 >x244 I thought. I have x244 on a 2003 plate. 2.8JTD though as its fiat rather than a pug
So many different versions in that era as they all shared the same parts bin.

Not come across 230P 230L educated guess may be the L is lwb and the p maybe panel van who knows ??
i do have a great big long list of what your came with from factory but none of it was a great deal of help sussing the details you wanted other than it was definitely a HDI. Most peugeots in the car market went from pumper diesel to HDI in 2001, sort of made sense.

Hi DanielF, that makes sense, however my Peugeot Boxer Weight plate shows 3400kg. Perhaps this was with agreement with Pilote, the additional Pilote and Alco plates also show 3400kg.

Hi HandyAndy, now you see how I became confused as a new owner.

I listed what I had found out in case someone else followed this thread in the future. And of course its all as true as my good looks.
