Have always used an unlocked mifi router with a 3 'internet with legs' sim on our travels around Europe but somehow it's got lost!!
Looking to get a new one and was wondering what models others use and would recommend?

better of with a decent phone contract nowadays one that allows tethering and full use abroad

i like use my laptop & ipad. i have a phone contract with 3 and in uk i can tether all items to use internet but unfortunetly you cannot use tethering abroad which is why i would like mifi

We are a couple of months out of a contract with Three using a Huawei E5372 which we bought second hand three years ago, so is of an indeterminate age! We are currently paying £15/ month for 20gb.

Had little or no problems with the device but was looking to see if there were any better deals and found this......

http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Dev...bc5a7b148e97c5&aidset=1&memory=0&colour=White

Popped into the store at Carlisle and asked about the 20gb for £9 a month deal that has the new Huawei E5573bs-322 4G included. This was reduced to £8/month as I was an existing customer, so took out that contract to start next week and was handed the new device & sim card there and then.

Gave 30 days notice to cancel my existing contract

I will keep my E5372 together with a payg 3 sim as standby.

Same as @Landy Andy with the Vodafone 100gb deal. (y)(y) The new forest is renown for bad phone and data connection. Without anything on my phone, I had 4 bars of 4g using that set up. Well worth it.

Unless you are on an ancient contract you can, Three don't restrict tethering abroad now, just the limit on data allowance (max of 19gb pcm if your contract allows for that much) you can even us a phone sim in a mifi.

3 are doing a deal with a new mifi, unlimited data for £22 a month. Strangely enough their data only sims are more expensive(n)

Anyone know which companies have made public commitments to keep roaming in Europe after you know what.................£9 month from 3 sounds good, if it can be used in Europe

I was tempted by the unlimited data from 3 at £25 pcm but we spend about 6 months abroad each year and as @Minxy Girl says you are limited to 19gb pcm when roaming.

I was actually tempted to get two of the same contracts giving me 40gb for £16 with 38gb pcm roaming.

I was tempted by the Vodafone 100gb for £20 but my phone is with Vodafone and I like to have options as to which carrier to use when travelling!

Immaterial of which provider you go with make sure it's a Huawei unit. You get the added benefit of a direct line to Xi Jinping (allegedly)!

Hi We have got a Huawei E5577S 12h battery which has TS9 ports for an external WIFI Aerial, from Amazon unlocked which we use on 3, and I have been able to stream Amazon Fire TV and Virgin TV to GO on it, you can connect up to 10 devices to it so for use it great with 4 Mobiles and 3 tablets when we go away, also going to try a external aerial on it if we get to an area with weak signal, got one on Amazon for £20 which you can only use when parked up.

Hi, what do you think of the 4g antenna? Does it make a big difference on signal strength?

I've been thinking of getting one of these but wondering whether it'll work when we're in the middle of nowhere to get a signal?

I'd love to know what you think of yours.
There's been a few threads on here about them. If you go to out of the way places they should pick up a usable signal even when a phone isn't registering anything. However, there are still places without any signal but they are rare, I've only come across it three or four times in my travels in the last couple of years but on this trip in France I've found several places where there is only 3G but the signal strength and performance was good.

I described my installation here:

We now use the Vodaphone 100g for £20 contract ( now £24 ), all available for use in the EU, together with unlimited minutes it’s all we need. Mifi now in a draw as a backup. :gum:

I fitted the motorhome WiFi kit and used it many times in the new forest. A place renown for little of no signal. Every time I have nothing on my phone, I have at least 3 bars of 4g on mifi unit. (y)

I think it is great. Zero to one bar on Vodafone at my house without aerial, but with aerial plugged in I get full 4G signal and can use Firestick with it. Yet to be somewhere without signal, although I’m an currently finding that I have to swap providers via the app whilst in the Mosel in Germany. But that isn’t the fault of the kit, that’s down to Vodafone.

Current concern would be, is there going to be a 5G option?

Andy.
