I want to buy a reasonable jack for use when working on my van, but have no idea what type would be most suitable?

Of course I'd use axle stands if I'm under the van.

It will be stored in the van full-time, so size and weight are definitely considerations.

Which type of jack would you suggest?

Thanks.

Trolley (y) keep it at home though. There will be a scissor jack under the passenger seat for emergencies... If there isn't, buy one.

Snap.. I carry a small two ton trolley around as the van didn't come supplies with anything..
It's most probably the only jack other than a scissor jack which will fit under the rear axel and give sufficient lift...
And even that doesn't make light work of the job..
Round home it's a low level 3 as a half ton trolley I use...Andy. .

10tonne bottle jack (y) man enough for the job and not too heavy. The scissor jack that came with it i would use to lift up if I had a flat then use bottle jack when high enough.

Thanks, but I'll be full-timing from next year so it will have to live in the van.

Wondering about a bottle jack?

So if I went the bottle jack route, would this be suitable?
Amazon product ASIN B0015NRKI6
and from manufacturer:
Broken Link Removed

At its lowest it's 205mm. The rear points where a jack would sit on my van are 330mm from the ground, so figure 205mm would be ideal with a flat tyre?

At its highest it's 390mm, so could get the tyre 60mm higher than needed.

Then there's working under the van. My axle stands have a range from 270mm - 395mm (6tonne set)

I used to carry a 10T bottle jack. Now carry a 3T trolley jack. However I am now towing a trailer, before the trailer it would have had to be a bottle jack for space reasons.

The troller jack is a far superior jack, but the Bottle jack is not too far behind.

My big concern with the bottle jack was tipping if the van moved a little during jacking. So I bolted a 5mm bit of plate steel to the bottom of it.

Cheers Guys - I've ordered a 10T bottle jack.

And a breaker bar.
And a new socket set.
And a snazzy little Makita light.
And some little bits.

Damn you Amazon :)

Nice one, an impact socket the size of your wheel nuts would be a good idea to go with your three foot breaker bar, you did order the three foot one didnt you?:LOL::LOL:
We full time and I'm pretty handy with a spanner so carry a Halfrauds Pro set with us plus other assorted tools........... Oh, and a big hammer (y):D2

Can't have too many tools @Wissel ;)

Relocate the screwdriver square bit that's lying in the box lid back into it's empty slot!

3t bottle jack to supplement the Fiat scissor jack (that we have used once - it was okay) takes up little room. A decent breaker bar for the wheelnuts and a torque wrench for doing them back up again. I'd normally call the breakdown service for a wheel change but we were in Morocco.......

And a torque wrench to tighten the nuts/studs to the specified torque?
Should be rechecked 30 miles later.
I use one to tighten and slacken instead of a 2ft breaker.
