We only use gas for our cooker, which seems to run OK on butane or propane. Which type is best to use - there must be a difference?

Butane has a slightly higher calorific value but propane gasses off at lower temperatures. So, if it's cold, propane.

Propane for the winter, we use it all year it’s just easier
Butane won’t gas if it’s near freezing you’ll have to take the bottle to bed with you to keep it warm!

Anything less than 10 deg you need propane, although butane doesn't stop gasing off until 0 deg it's starts slowing down below 10.

I think propane evaporates at something like -60°c at atmospheric pressure. Butane is much higher something like 0°c

Practically, get the red bottle. It's also prettier.
This could be quite subjective, depending on any clashes with your MH and awning's colour scheme. Of course if you are unfortunate enough to be colour blind, you won't care :)

Why ask the same question on another motor home forum, yesterday, then the same question on here today?
Does it get your ratings up?

Red burns hotter, knackered fridge gas jet on blue many years ago, it’s also same price? Anyway filling up with auto gas solves the dilemma

Red or blue? You need to be careful with your answer up here.

That's the reason why they're not blue and green up here! There would be riots on every campsite when folk opened their gas lockers to turn the gas on! :whistle2: ;):giggle:

So propane it is! Thanks for the input
