l've now bought another motorhome but they want £800+ for two 6kg gaslow bottles. After a lot of searching I've found gaslow £520 fitted, Or gasit £450 fitted. Both I will have to travel to at a rough estimation of £100 for fuel. So which one do I go for?.

Gasit is cheaper but doesn't have the latest tech on its cylinders as I understand it - but whether its significant or important I have no idea.
I had gaslow fitted locally on my MH and was perfectly happy.
Can you not get either fitted more locally to you?

PS - What have you bought, and how's its weight ;)?

I went for the Gasit system and fitted it myself. It's very easy to do and saves about £150.00.(in your case £250.00) Had it about 18 months now with no problems.

I fitted my own Gas it system it's quite easy if you are a DIY person, I must admit drilling the skirt was a bit of a worry but as long as you take your time easy enough

I wasn't that brave and fitted an in locker filler. Had no problems filling anywhere. UK, France, Spain, Portugal or Italy.

Gasit,

Father in law fitted as he fitted gaslow on previous van. Couple of hours while i was at work. He even said i would have fitted with no problems.

I had studied the video attached and couldnt really see a problem but i would have had to have done it when working on nights so quite happy he did it for me.

Stuck a bbq point in aswell which we wanted into the skirting. Fill point on skirting as well.

And similarly what have you got? we are all interested.

Other options include

1) getting a semi skilled mate to do it
2) wait until you have to travel that way to get it done
3) wait til youre on holiday near to a dealer and they come out to you
4) If you know a plumber/gas fitter put all the non 8/10 mm in yourself and get them to do the joints

Incorporate the fitting of gas cylinders into a trip then the £100 fuel cost isn't just for getting the bottles fitted.

@suavecarve , @Manic , yes I have plenty of time on my hands, so exactly what I thought, I'll make a trip of it. I was just trying to understand which gas is the best to go for, any for's or against for either of them.

@Mickey1 i had Gaslow fitted last year at the Peterborough show, if your off there then may be an option? save on a special trip....think it took them about 90 mins, certainly didn't seem long.

Both Gasit and Gaslow sell the same bottles, only difference is the colours. They both sell two different types, one being cheaper than the other. Not sure what the advantages of one over the other is, other than I think the more expensive one has a better level indicator.

I bought Gasit and fitted it myself. The most difficult bit was drilling the hole through the skirt.

Alugas a bit dearer but if they will fit you can have 14kg bottles, good quality aluminum bottles made in Germany. That's what we have.

@Mickey1 it is very easy to fit yourself so if you buy the kit and DIY fit it will save you a LOT of money, if you can change over a normal gas cylinder it's not much more work than that.

The R67 bottles which are the 'newer' design aren't really necessary IMV and there is no requirement for you to have these despite what anyone may claim otherwise no-one wouldn't be able to sell the older style. We have one of each type and we actually prefer the original one as the knob on it is the bigger type whereas the one on the R67 is very small and a bit fiddly, not ideal if you have a bit of a problem with gripping etc; the gauges are just as good as each other ... pretty crap! :D

You can see the 2 types of knobs in the below images: larger one at the top and the much smaller one at the bottom.

@Lenny HB , it will only take two 6kg bottles, he told me the 11 kg would be too tall. @Minxy Girl , I'm sure I could fit it myself, I guess it's the thought of drilling into a new van that I don't like, also it seems to be the same price fitted as to getting them posted. If there's no difference in the bottles, I may as well go for the cheaper.

Not sure where you've got your prices from but it is a LOT cheaper to get the bottles posted to you rather than fitted.

The hole drilling is the 'worst' part of it but if you take your time you'll be fine, remember that the first hole for the cutter is a small drill bit one so just do that then stop and check it again before you do the 'big' cut.

Fitted 2 Gasit bottles and external filler to my brand new Flair in 2015. Gut wrenching, yes, but easy! The guys at Gasit are helpful and have the exact size hole cutters available for a small charge so you get it dead right. I had to take the handles off the top of mine to get the 11 kg bottles in. So spend some time with a tape measure.

We have a chausson only takes one cylinder probably the same height gas locker as yours for a 11kg european cyl managed to get a gasit 11kg to fit just!!!. The in locker filler has never been a problem and as we had no holes to drill when we swap we can keep the system to transfer over.

The collars unbolt on the refillable bottles so 11kg may fit, I can't believe in a van that size it will only take 6kg bottles. Gaslow & Gas-it/Stako bottles are made in the same factory in Poland.

Yea, that's exactly what I said to him, the Yorkshire war cry.
@Lenny HB , I called and queried the sizes again, because after checking,I find the 11kg is only 3 1/2 ins tallerand 2 1/2 ins wider. Waiting for him to get a fitter to check.

Thanks @milliethehymer , but I'm hoping to go to the Chester rally, so the Peterborough show is too late.

Unless of course you take one conventional cylinder to Chester, and have one refillable installed at Peterborough. We have 1x11 kg refillable and our standard cylinder as back up in case we ever run out of the refillable one. Under those circumstances we would use the conventional gas, and refill the other at the first opportunity. It's also cheaper just to have the one refillable .

Not run out of the refillable one yet though!

Just to put what @Mickey1 has been offered by his money grabbing dealer, this is what I found on fleabay this morning.
Just remember, whoever is selling this is happy with what they're getting. They must be making a happy profit. £280 is what they're asking

It makes very little practical difference what supplier you use.. Just go for the best price and convenience.

My gas locker is inside the garage and there is gas barbecue connection straight through the sidewall already. I realise that most people prefer to fit the external (don't want an internal) filling point in the skirt but, in my case, it would be much easier to go straight through the side wall. That's not likely to be a problem if it's well sealed, is it?

Our fillpoint is in the wall, no problems - damp check carried out last week and all was well.
