To get the new bikes and bike rack in the garage I've had to stack chairs. tables etc. vertically against the back wall of the garage. Currently tied with bungees but not the easiest to stretch and hook on. Also too much give. I'm looking at cam-lock straps with hooks on or lightweight ratchet straps with hooks. Before I order anything, what do you use and why?

I use the ssme blue ratchet straps
Shouldnt use bungees as in the event of sudden braking they will let all your stuff fly about.

Ratchet straps are the best and simplest way :)
Would you say simpler than cam locks, given that there's not much load/strain involved?

I dragged bikes on trailers and in the camper 35 years.

Ratchet straps all the way.
Yes but i'm not holding bikes or any heavy load, just holding table and chairs etc. against back wall. just wondered if cam buckle straps might be simpler/easier to use in a confined space.

Only real difference between ratchet and cam buckle is you can tighten ratchets more than cam buckle straps.
Once the cam buckles are pulled tight they can't 'let go' and are more convenient to use in a confined space.

I hardly use anything apart from auto retractable ratchet straps nowadays. One-piece so no fiddling with threading them together and easier to locate and tension. More expensive but if you only need a couple they save the hassle.

When did we start needing to read threads properly? :(

Cam locks will be fine for your use but not so good on heavy stuff as they tend to work slightly loose under vibration.

Ive been using ratchet straps probably since they were invented but hadnt heard of these, brilliant! Joined my list of things to do when we get back.

Check what you're anchoring to, easy to rip the ally channels off the wall with ratchet straps. Relocate them to more solid backing base if you prefer the ratchets.

This is the reason I use elasticated methods to restrain some items. I don’t want to pull fixings off, or through walls. It is far too easy to apply lots of pressure, especially with ratchet straps.

For upright chairs and flattish items against the garage wall I use a long cam lock strap threaded through these type of mounts which I screwed into the wooden panel which forms the front wall of the garage. As the items are on the front wall there is no stress put on the straps when braking and my van doesn't accelerate like a fighter jet, so hardly any stress there either 😀

The ratchet straps with hooks arrived today and are going back tomorrow. they are so stiff to release and will obviously be more awkward to use as I have to stretch into the garage.

The cambuckle straps with hooks arrive Monday. annoyed that they are nearly twice the price but Should be much easier to use. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Lots of other uses for the ratchet straps, awning tie down, bikes on the back, securing the front passenger doors in unsavoury overnight stops.

I made my own bungee hoops and screwed them into strong points and corners.
I've found bungees are good enough for retaining most stuff.

That looks tidy, in the last photo, is the the back of the M/H to the left?
P.S., you've left the light on

Yes that is the inside wall, the back/left wall was left empty for motorcycle.
I needed the light on --- its dark in there??? :Eeek:

I'm a bit averse to that kind of plastic clip as we had them on Fiamma awning tie down straps and one broke after only a few uses so replaced both with ratchet straps. Also had one on another smaller strap which broke in the same place. (the two spring pins). Probably ROK clips are better though.
