Looking for some direct fillable (refillable) LPG bottles. I only know of Safefil after searching a few threads on here but wondered if the other brands like Gasit, Alugas have a direct at the bottle filling option ?

Gaslow are doing them now.

Cheers that’s good to know as my local MH dealer sells Gaslow so that could be an option.

There is also Gasit. My local lpg supplier ( Calor) will not touch Gasfil. Asked twice with two different members of staff. Same answer.

You may find problems finding petrol stations which will allow direct filling bottles.
Many kicked it into touch after the idiots were buying fill adaptors off such as eBay for regular exchange bottles with no 80% cutoff systems.
No problem filling via an external hose.... You could be filling traction gas and they won't stop that anytime soon.

Safefill can say anything they want, ultimately it's the fuel stations decision which applies.
Indeed so. Just as a landlord can refuse to supply any adult even though it's legal to drink alcohol.

I only posted it for information and have installed a Gaslow system in my m/h.

In over two year's I have only ever had the girl at Asda come and have a look and quickly walked away.
They all seem to be familiar with Safefill bottles now.
Never had a single problem in Europe.
Just avoid Total Garages in France, they won't fill any motorhome gas bottles.
I need to fill one bottle tomorrow on my way to the tunnel. 20 litres will cost me around a £12.

The Gaslow direct fill option is looking the best so far, can source them almost locally and the prices are OK.

Need direct fill as having them installed here just doesn’t make sense cost wise.

It's a pity they don't do a bigger bottle.
Only 12 litres as opposed to 21 litres in the 10kg Safefill bottles

Looks like they do 11kgs in the Gaslow direct

Simple easy DIY job.
The installation cost of refillable LPG cylinders isn’t massive to be honest , we charge £100,00 plus vat , that includes a gas tightness test that would normally cost £65.00 .
For most purchasers by the time they have bought the required holesaw and tools they aren’t going to saves fortune.
We sell many kits online and offer technical support free of charge .

Sounds like labour is over £2000 an hour.
Could you not get it installed in Germany if you don't want to do it yourself?

Wish I could, and that was my plan when back in the Uk during the summer.

Here it has to be done by a certified installer and then inspected afterwards. The big cost is that you have to reinforce the gas locker and have mounting points to secure the bottles mounted to the chassis so it does become quite a job. It’s just one of those peculiar local laws that you can’t avoid, although a direct fill bottle does get round it😏

I had wondered why I had never seen refillable LPG installations on vans here and now I know why as the payback would be about 50yrs🥲 shame really as for me it’s equally about the convenience as much as the cost saving.

Basildog I’m interested in this. What is your company please?

We have both. 2 x safefill which I use for our caravan and home BBQ.

Gaslow on our motorhome. Though I prefer Alugas.

In Spain, our house has 10 of those 35kg cespa propane. When we use the house, I connect 2 x 11kg cespa propane from the hardware store. I was going to take a safefill over. But there is not big savings as the cost of the 11kg in Spain is not much more, if not less than filling a 10Kg safefill

Hello I am new here and looking for the price of gas bottle refill. 20 L is equal to 20 kg? So is it 12£ per bottle?
Also, I intend to live full time in my motorhome from decembre, how often do I have to refill the gas?

Its impossible to say how long your bottles will last for various reasons - You will have to suc it and see.
My 10Kg refill bottles take around 20Litres to fill at between 65p and 95p per litre in this country.

No. 1kg = 1.96L therefore 20L weighs 10kg.
The common exchangeable 6kg (12 L) Calor propane cylinder costs about £25
With your own refillable tank 12L at an autogas pump will cost on average about £10 to £11 (i.e. from 75p to 90p a litre).

Hi there, we use Calor at the moment and have Whale heater/water heater/Dometic fridge. Would these run off LPG without modification?

Hi Dorset16,
If your Calor bottles are RED they are filled with propane which is a Liquid Pretroleum Gas LPG

Calor BLUE bottles have Butane which is also LPG but not suitable for low temperatures in winter months.

My local Flogas depot has barred safefill style bottles now after an 'incident'.

Both Morrisons and our local gas supplier allow us to fill our light weight SafeFill bottles, because they are recognised to be foolproof. Calor don't like them because they show up Calor's profiteering.
