Looking for one
Exp
I’m a newbie
Hey all, as I’m about to enter into the world of campervan membership, I’ve been wondering if there’s a preferred club. I’ve looked at the biggies and there are some nasty reviews on TrustPilot so I’m a bit stuck.

My wife and I are taking early retirement soon and plan to do some touring around the British Isles but we will do most on the continent.

Thanks guys and looking forward to your recommendations.

Best.

We prefer the Caravan and Motorhome Club, have been members of the camping and caravanning clubs too in the past. Both are good and the club standards are generally very high. Try going to both sites (you do not need to be a member, you just pay a couple of quid more per night as a non member) and see which you both prefer. The CAMC is slightly more expensive for annual membership than the CACC.

Our experience was that the wardens of the CACC are a bit more pedantic and felt a bit Carry on Camping than the more easy going CAMC. But each to their own, and it could be just our experiences at the sites we went to.

Many thanks Chazzer, that’s exactly the kind of info I’m looking for. (y)(y)(y)

We are a member of CACC club and have the same Chazzer with referance to Carry On!!
We use Pitch Up or google maps to search for private sites then double check them on
Trip Advisor.
We've found some great sites and I can't remember the last time we used CACC.

I usually say both, for the sake of forty odd quid, but have just cancelled my C&CC membership... for a number of reasons:
The main one being their antiquated and frustrating online booking system - you can book online but any amendments or cancellations have to be done by phone, and my experience is long wait times before your call is answered.
I don't like the deposit system, it is too inflexible for motorhoming.
I've previously found their sites a little "tired" in comparison to those of the CAMC.
Very minor point but I prefer to choose my own pitch rather than being lead to a pre-allocated one.

Not a club, but thoroughly recommend Britstops.
The next guide is out Feb2022, so plenty of time to learn about the scheme & if might suit you.

We are members of the C&CC mainly for their Temporary Holiday Sites, we are currently on one close to Whitby £12 a night stay until Sept 20th if you want.

Also some very good midweek discounts for over sixties on club sites.

Never been a member of C&CC as couldn't get on with their website \ booking system \ deposit regime. Did insure the motorhome through them for one year though.

Member of C&MC and find their sites \ staff very good. Motorhome stored on one of their sites and insured through them for a couple of years.

We’ve been in both the main ones but now just in the C&MHC. We mainly use the CLs, which are everywhere and good. We especially like the cheap off grid ones. We use Club Sites for the excellent laundry facilities and long hot showers.

The C&MHC offer excellent insurance, which we’ve tried and tested. The Red Pennant is very good and when my husband was ill in Spain, they were brilliant. We also like the repatriation part of it, which includes the dog.

Wow, a plethora of new info! Epic forum…

Looks like it’s CAMC then…. 👍

Hey Langtoftslad…. That Britstops sounds useful, I’ll look that up. I have been tentatively using Park4night and Searchforsites which both look ok but a third is always useful.

I won’t be buying until early next spring but I fully intend to grill members on what’s what.

Many thanks all!

ATB: John.

Join both. Use both and see which one appeals the most to your needs and then after a year, you can decide.
Both offer a good selection of CL sites, club sites and travel offers etc.
In my personal opinion, one is more friendlier than the other when it comes to club site wardens but the other offers slightly better deals on ferries and overseas sites.
One has a better web booking site than the other, but the other is less stuffier and you don't have to wear a cravat

We've tried both but have stuck with C&CC over many years. We tend to rally and use CSs rather than the club sites. The Temporary Holiday Sites (THSs) are also really good and generally much cheaper than the places. Think the most we've ever paid is around £12 a night.

We are in both, just had 4 days at a Camping Club THS at Rhos on Sea for 8.50 a night, now on a CL near Barmouth.

Depending on the shot, one you can hit confidently to the right yardage.

We belong to both C&MC and the CCC, as SWMBO likes her creature comforts, as do I, if I’m honest! ;)
The C&MC sites tend to be more expensive as they do no offer ‘senior’ discount, but there’s not that much in it really. Both clubs have (generally) good facilities, but some sites are in need of refurbishment - on-going programmes are in place, I believe.
As GAVLAD says, give both clubs a go and see which, if either, suits you best…….

Try both. then decide if you only need one. My choice may not be yours.. in the last 20yrs have not used the main sites , only the THS And CS of the CCC. Ccc the friendly club, yep.

It looks like C&MC will start charging booking deposits from next year so I will ditch them - they will become inflexible so no advantage there and, for just me, they are more expensive than C&CC.

It's nice to be back in Spain, everyone is chilled out 😌👌

We were at a C&CC temporary site with friends in July and got directed to the pitch next to our friends by the site 'Adolf' he was like one of those airport plane directors waving his arms about indicating EXACTLY where to position the van.
I turned the van to reverse in (and disobey a direct ORDER 😏) he went mental...

"WOOOOOOOWW!!" anybody would think I was about to run somebody over!

"NO REVERSING! PARK FOREWARDS! DOORS FACING AWAY! COVID GUIDE LINES!"

2 minutes later we were sat in our friends van having a drink 🙄

I suppose people with low self esteem gravitate towards jobs that make them feel better 🤔 doesn't happen in Spain though.

Or perhaps high self esteem that they feel they have the authority to boss others around.....

No, they like to pull others down to make them feel better about themselves. They don't really like themselves and are not happy. You see it in domestic abuse where the man mentally abuses the woman to pull her down...

I could be a psychologist 😉

Extrinsic self confidence.

I can imagine him walking away after, thinking to himself "I'm good I am. I make them jump in here. They do as I say. I'm the man in here. You may park where you want elsewhere but in here you park how I SAY! 😎"

Most of them are fine though and don't care where you park, we stayed in a few THS sites this year.
Wainfleet 👍
Bournemouth 👍
Filey👍
Chapel St Leonards👍
York 👍

Both, then you can choose which location suits you best and pick between the multitude of approved sites, temporary sites etc that are on offer.
We move around a lot during the year and find the ability to pick and choose very helpful
