Hello. We have been caravanners for many years, but are now planning on buying a motorhome. How do various base models compare and is there anything in particular we should consider?
We are semi-retired, so plan to tour for a few months at a time, all over Europe, including Scandinavia. Our budget is around £40-45k.

One model we have seen and liked is a Zefiro on a Ford Chassis and another is an Eldiss on a Peugeot chassis.
Mercedes based models seem to be out with our price range, unless we go a lot older.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The very first thing to consider is layout and payload. A perfect "base" model" would be useless if the layout annoyed you and if the payload was too small your comfort would be serverely compromised.

Just remember that Peugeot Boxer and Fiat Ducato are exactly the same unit.
They tend to be the most popular bases.

We would like to stay with the layout of our last caravan, which was an island bed with a separate double sofa lounge. But we would also like a garage and would consider a double lounge model or drop-down bed. We want to have the bed made up permanently.

Thanks Steve69. I didn't know that.
Are they the most popular because of reliability, running costs or budget? Do you know how peugeot, fiat, citroen and ford all compare regards reliability and maintenance?
