After years of touring abroad and many parts of the U.K. wonderful as it is, due to the current situation we need to go “somewhere different”. We were thinking maybe the Wye valley and Forest of Dean area. Any hints, tips, or must sees there or thereabouts would be appreciated.

As students on a field trip in 1972 we experienced a good walk along the old railway line and therefore raised funds to support them. Things have moved on: https://deanforestrailway.co.uk/

We also enjoyed canoeing on the Wye from Biblins Bridge: https://www.familydaystriedandtested.com/biblin-bridge-adventure/
Unfortunately the bridge was damaged by Storm Dennis, but may be worth a look (and a walk).

The Forest of Dean is home to "free miners", folk who have the right to dig in the woods. Go for a wander and see if you can find mineshafts: some are still in use.

It is also the home to wild boars: locals complain about them destroying village greens etc. Are you licensed to shoot them? If so, you may be very welcome and be able to fund your holiday!
