We are based halfway down western France and are thinking of going away for about 3 weeks. We did the Christmas markets around Strasbourg a couple of years ago and the Avignon area another time.

Everywhere is a long drive, but ideas so far:
  • head towards Amsterdam, taking in some of the WW1 sites, Antwerp Christmas market etc
  • Barcelona, Sitges, possibly head to Benidorm to see the show at the Benidorm Palace which is supposed to be fantastic
Strasbourg and Avignon were both amongst our favourite holidays although both freezing cold. Would like to be a bit warmer but realise that is down to luck.

Thought as it's winter would be good opportunity to spend some time indoors in museums etc (eg Amsterdam and the Anne Frank, Van Gogh etc)

Any ideas/suggestions please?

Brugges is lovely at Christmas (Christmas market etc), aires or a great site (camping Memmling) just outside the walls within walking distance, Ypres also has great aires/camping and you have the Menim gate where the fire service play the last post every night (lots of WW1 history with the Cloth Hall museum etc), lots of bars & restaurants in the square and Brussels is also a great place to visit at Christmas all on your way to Amsterdam.
