Hi, can anyone tell me where I can get one of these, please? Some of the little light "squares" are failing.

Hmmm.

That's marked as G4 but it doesn't look like a G4 lamp.

Can you take the lamp out of the fitting and post another picture?

The good news it that you can get them pretty much anywhere, even B&Q.

I will try and remove it. I have searched everywhere and can't find one that looks the same. I'm too daft with electrics to take a chance on one that looks different!

That's still the fitting I'm afraid.

The lamp is the bit inside with the squares on. That will come out.

It looks like you will need to gently remove the glass on the front to access the lamp. The first step will be to gently ease the black ring off, that's probably holding the glass in.

Don't be too rough, you shouldn't need to force anything.

It will come out, the LED lamp is definitely a retrofit because the markings on the glass refer to the maximum rated halogen lamp you can use.

Thanks for your patience. Another photo, but this is as far as I can get it out as the bottom bit is attached and I don't want to break it.

Try pressing on the glass face and rotating it anti clockwise
If it pushes in a bit it should turn

If not find one if those small sucker things they use in n bath rooms to hold stuff
Stick it on the glass and pull

The glass and black ring came off, that photo is of the inside. The white bit at the bottom is attached to the bottom of the ring

That's it. It slides out sideways. The two pins you can see at the bottom of the picture are the connections.

If you slide a small screwdriver in the gap on the other side and gently lift it above the rim of the fitting you will be able to ease it out.

Again, nice and gently and you'll be fine. It can be a little fiddly but they usually come out easily enough.

The lamps are easy to get:

Amazon: Amazon product ASIN B00M4BBSLI
LED Hut:

eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/G4-24-SMD-LED-12V-AC-DC-1-9W-WHITE-WARM-WHITE-BULB-20W-/130521207636

Or if you take the lamp to your local electrical wholesaler they will more than likely have one on the shelf.

Some of the little light "squares" are failing.

You may as well know the right name. They are LEDs. Light Emitting Diodes. Diode because they basically have 2 wires and obviously it normally emits light.

Yours have 6 wires, so using a package that could house 3 LEDs for Red/Green/Blue colour changing LEDs but not so in your case.

Have a wander round here....

Tilt the edge of the Led part furthest from the pins (use a small screwdriver or similar) then slide it out in the direction away from the pins. It is simply a flat led board with two pins sticking out of the edge - it has no depth.

Thanks. Sorry, I can't get it out, without looking as if I'll break something. I'm seeing a maintenance guy next week and will ask him to have a look. Thanks for the links.

G4 is the type of base to the bulb so you get all types of g4 bulbs you can only tell when bulb is removed if no markings on bulb.

Wow! We do have some well-informed and helpful people on here. I am a complete dunderhead when it comes to technical things (a great disappointment to my late father, who serviced and maintained RAF jet fighters) so it is good to be a member of this helpful community. I am sure I will need help myself in the future. It's great that you could help the OP.

remember whatever you do , that it is a diode and only works one way around when you put in again.
