Where to explore between Pickering and Shrewsbury?

We’ve just had a great time at the Bridlington rally and have spent a few days exploring Pickering, Whitby and Helmsley.

Our next rally is in Shrewsbury on Thursday.

My question to all you knowledgeable Northern or have visited up here Funsters is….where would you recommend we spend tomorrow?

Anywhere between Helmsley and Shrewsbury. We don’t need campsite ideas but more nice market town or pretty village type places, on our way back down south.

First time in Yorkshire and we’ve loved it.

Try the Peak District Dawn, maybe Bakewell.

Or York.....may have to do a park n ride. York is lovely.

Shardlow, Alrewas (National Arboretum) and Fradley Junction are all picture postcard locations on the Trent & Mersey Canal worthy of seeing if you’ve never been before Dawn & Martin.

Thanks all. Think we will go with canopus Shardlow suggestion. There is a pub stopover there and hopefully we can cycle along the canal.

Bakewell looked interesting but park4night only shows sites with ‘adult activities“ i.e dogging at night! Can’t be doing with all that with my bad back

We spent a lovely but very hot morning at this garden which is run by volunteers. Each volunteer buddy’s up with a person with additional needs and they work together to restore the walled acreage back to its former glory.

We sat on a bench in the shade amongst the wildflower area. 2 elderly ladies strolled by and with a lovely strong Yorkshire accent said…

“eh look at em weeds Maive, lazy buggers”.

They had missed the sign spelling out the very many ecological benefits of said weeds! We tried unsuccessfully not to laugh as they grumbled away.

Moving counties to Derbyshire and we’ve parked at the Navigation Inn on the river Trent at Shardlow.

A meandering cycle along the canal, river and fishing lakes has made this another lovely day.

Off to Shrewsbury tomorrow but we will return to Drax in Yorkshire in August and will be asking for more suggestions of places to see up here. Thanks all.
