Where is the best place to park up?

Getting off the ferry 9.30 pm at Caen..Where would we be likely to get parked up for the night? free or cheap under 15 euros would be good.

we would go into the campsite on the second roundabout after the ferry........ to be honest when you see the hoards of immigrants trying to get into British Campers / caravans its scary to try anything else...... when you go into the site, they will put you in the centre of the site alongside others so you are more secure..... it is horrendous in that area. We stayed there on our way back...... next morning to get to the ferry, they had all traffic lights off and the police directing traffic to enable you to get to the ferry without getting into problems !!!! Alternatively, get onto the M/ way A84 and stop in the services ( aires) just prior to Avranche.

Thanks, thats informative, never been this way before but it seems to be working out cheapest ferry fare. Not too bothered if theres other options with a 2hr drive from port.

really depends on the ferry you are on..... if its the early one from Pompey, you will arrive in Caen and be able to drive some distance to park up and in that case I would head south of Nantes and stay in the ' Grissay' aires...... its lovely, however, if on the late ferry..... arriving at 21-30 then you need a stop within an hour............. sorry just reread...... you are on the late ferry....... duhhhh

just as an aside......... where are you actually heading, as some routes from Caen if you are going to the west coast will take you down thro' Le Mans and on the M/ ways which are expensive, whereas you can get as far as Nantes without a toll, then take your pick of either tolls or side roads.

We stopped, heading south, at Villers Bocage off the A84, free. About an hour south of Caen.

Nice aire by river passed le mans le suez le sarthe ( check spelling) first aire we ever stayed on . Short walk into village nice old hotel where all old jaguar and mg clubs used to stay before 24 hours le man .

If you don't want to go far there's an aire/parking just outside the port. We've used it when returning to the UK on the early boat. Just turn right as you come out of the port and it's just a few hundred meters on the right

There is a nice little aire at Hermanville sur Mer, just 5km from the port. It's behind the shops and has 5/6 bays. There was a bourne but that got damaged in a fire, not sure if it's been replaced although the pic on I-Camping Car shows it. We've used it a few times, never seems to get busy.

We don't know yet, Spain or Portugal, not even 100% sure we are even going but I like to do my home and be prepared.
