We're currently on our second ever trip away and very happy that we have plenty of gas and electric for our needs of 3 days free camping in the peaks but are a little concerned about water. Any clever tips?

Carry a spare gerry can. Don't use as much each day, or fill up at a petrol station.

You should be able to carry enough for 3 days in your van?

We didn't fill it full this time as filled on our drive at 10 % angle and also lost some as the frost protection had triggered the dump valve.

Its deaths own job trying to find a water tap at a cemetery, I know as we tried many times, but saw some nice fresh cut flowers that had obviously been left for us, very considerate I thought:whistle2:

Tourist attractions that have lots of coaches visiting often have service areas for them so they can top up water etc.

Very often you will find a water tap on the stanchion at petrol stations.

If desperate for water just for cooking etc it’s cheap enough by the bottle from the supermarket as a temporary measure.

I took a coach party to Lourdes once - crazy town to drive in, they turn the one-way road system round 16th of the month!. But I digress.

There are of course loads of coaches and a reasonable space to park them, for a change. Unfortunately there are no services, but just adjacent is a water fountain, labelled as holy water. We saw one driver hook up his hosepipe and proceed to wash his coach........................!
He was very smartly escorted out of town and told not to come back. Ever.

Surely he was blessing his coach ?

If diluted it goes further. { Only Joking }
When I used to work away as a contractor in a camper I would buy some fish and Chips 'mid week' and say by the way can I fill a few water bottles please ?
I used the clear plastic office type drinking water upturned bottles with a neck. Ideal for turning upside down to top up a motorhome water tank through the big round screw cap. No hose pipe required.

Read my explanation above we weren't full and we are new so probably not as water efficient as old hands thanks for the helpful advice though

Our 100L tank will last us almost 7 days but we also carry our Aquaroll which holds another 40L so we don't have too many problems but usually use petrol stations

Do you drink this water from petrol stations or do you boil it first?

A tankful will do us about 4 days, including a daily shower each.
Same here and miss the odd shower 6 or 7 days also carry a spare cassette.
If using a garage I always ask first if I fill up with fuel can I fill up with water. Only been refused once, just went to the next garage.

Lanerboy,

I've downloaded the wild camping app but it's only showing a map, i.e . not the ws, cr, lr, ph etc shown on your post. What am I doing wrong?
