Hi all.

Can anyone tell me where I can buy the 'twist-lock' style of EHU socket found on some campsites?

For clarity, these are the sockets where you insert the plug and have to twist it to get power. There is a release button to unlock the plug, so you can remove it, and isolate the supply.

I want to install one at home so that I can keep the motorhome charged etc. when on the drive. The IEE Regs require it to have its own isolator and I fancy one of the twist types.

Normally, I'm pretty good at finding things on google, but these little b*ggers are managing to elude me. I have tried most combinations of search words to no avail. So any help (especially links to suppliers) would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Ralph

they use exactly the same 16amp blue plug as other hook up leads

Have you tried electrical trade suppliers ?
BTW what advantages do you see from getting the twist type ?
Just curious....

OP is talking about getting the twist socket to fit.
or the ones as used on bollards on some campsites. You push in the standard blue 16amp plug and then turn it to switch on, and it latches. To remove you press the button beside the socket and the plug unlocks so yo can remove it

ah just re--read you want the bollard fitting

If you just do it as an extension lead and plug it in inside the house there’s no need to worry about all those regulations and perfectly safe. Our electric trips out if a bulb blows so sure it’s ok for that.

Makes a bigger mess than the ordinary type if you forget to unplug it

An approved electrical contractor installed my outside socket (3 pin 13A in a waterproof cover with door) in the drive and powered it from/by adding an additional MCB on the domestic distribution board. I use a metre long adapter lead with a blue EHU socket one end and a 3 pin 13A plug the other.
The beauty of the 3 pin 13A outdoor socket is that I can also plug in the mower, and hedge trimmer.

Thanks for all your comments. I am aware that I can just use an extension lead, but we are renovating our property and so I fancied putting in the right thing.
I preferred the twist-lock idea because I thought it would be more 'streamlined' than having a separate switch and socket.
TCG I like the look of that, does it have an isolator built in?
TheBig1 That's brilliant, thank you. Sadly I need a surface mount option rather than panel mount, but at least I now have a brand name to search for. Although, I must admit, at that price I may well go for a different option!

Hi, think you'll find it's made by martin lunel

Google, its available in a few places inc Ebay and also
refurbished

The above is a good option. A rotary switch within the socket is not an isolator - one use of which is to enable work to be carried out on whatever it is isolating. In this case the socket.

Ahh think Martin Lunel may be obsolete. used to install the 3ph version in the 70s for welding plants.

Not sure if Legrand took them over but had another look via google and not found anything very useful for 240V 16A IEC
