I've noticed a certain pattern in UK when the weather forecast is for snow and ice.

First of all they turn the signs on the motorway that say "gritting in progress".

If the weather gets even worse they send the gritters out.

If it gets really, really bad they turn the gritting mechanism on on the back of the trucks. But, usually steps one and two are as far as they can afford to go.

In Bolton, where I live, there are some steep hills. I know where they are; Bolton town council don't.

same here Bernard....gritters but no grit.

unlike driving through Whitby today, two gritters pulled out of the council depot road with full 'take yer paint off' type grit throwing....doing both lanes and both footpaths in one pass. :Eeek:

shame about the massive snowploughs mounted up front when there was not a bit of snow.

On & off, since 1966 - fulltime since 2005
Snow was forecast for this pm, 4 days ago.
At about 6.30 pm the temperature dropped from +3 to -2.
At about 7.30 pm it started snowing, lightly.
At 10.30 pm the snowploughs etc. came through the village and cleared the roads...

Not bad considering the village is 2km from the nearest main road, and on the way to nowhere ...
