Does anyone use wheel covers when parked up? I've been given a set but never thought to buy them before and I don't carry anything I don't use so what is the general consensus on these please.
Tia.

We have ours with us here in France at present and will use them if parked up with the sun beating down on the tyres.
Also fit them when our van is parked up at home in the summer months.

I will be using ours in the hot climes this year, having had to replace the last set of Michelins owing to sidewall cracking, I am hoping it will reduce the new set’s likelihood of suffering the same fate. A lot of the ‘old sweats’ abroad use them in the intense sun (on their tyres!).

I put a cover on sun exposed tyres in the summer months when on a site for more than a couple of nights. Simple and quick job preventing tyre degradation.

Another thumb up for covers. Used on the sun side when parked up for a couple of days. We also have a set for the car as it’s left in the drive when we are off in the van. We made both sets with lightweight tarpaulin from B&P, £5 about 10 years ago.

Had a lightweight set which have now been replaced with a heavier set. Fit them when on the drive. Haven't used covers whilst travelling previously but may take the old ones this time as they don't weigh much and I'll be parking up for a few multi-day stops. Won't bother for a two nighter.

Use them if parked up for a week or more. (y)

I don't see the point unless are in southern Spain in mid summer when its 35-40°.
We normally wear the tyres out before any chance of sun damage.

I think the experts say that it's direct sunlight on the sidewalls that does the damage, but I wonder if encasing a wheel in black plastic isn't going to cause problems through heat build-up as well.
I made up a pair of lightweight boards, just propped up against the sunny side wheels, which allow the air to circulatete too.
Seems to do the trick.

I've been told it's the UV light that does the damage, combined with the heat of course.

fit them when our van is parked up at home, except on non sunny MIlenco fitted side.
