Hi
on a couple of occasions we have found it a bit difficult to get of soft grass. with the front wheel drive ducatco.

are there any good mats out there that someone can recommend?

thanks

I have had a pair of large "Track Mats" since my tugging days. they live happlily in the Gas bottle locker until needed. Most recently I put the rear (driving) wheels on them when on a grass site and with the threat of rain. The trick is to ride off them S l o w l y, and keep a slow momentum going in as straight a line as possible to the hard. What you need is both wheels driving, if you put too much lock on, the diff; action will spin one wheel, and you have effectively lost 50% traction. The best form of "defence" is to walk the pitch and test the ground Before parking up If here is a slope in the site, I always look to see If I can park at the highest point too. Another thought, if you have front wheel drive reversing off puts the "driving" wheels into a Pushing mode and can be more effective.

When my van has settled in to grass/mud, I just reverse slightly to get out of the indents then drive off forwards. It's like being rear wheel drive for a couple of feet!

Do not park on soft grass, then you won't sink in. Observe tractor tyres, do yours look like that???
thanks for that little pearl of wisdom.. but unfortunately i do not belong to the travelling community and therefore do not pitch up on the nearest car park

Ye old bread crates. Free and do the job so why try and improve or spend silly amounts of cash. ?

The flaw in that observation is that many grass pitches are not immediately obvious as "Soft". But a couple of days of rain can alter that significantly. Sadly in the UK that can happen all too often.

Back when we had the caravan, As Marshall, I could be on site up to 2 days before a Rally, and generally would be one of the last to leave. I have many time arrived on a nice firm field, often one we had used many times, only to find that by Friday when the ralliers arrived we where stuggling to get them on (never mind off on Sunday) due to a couple of days of persitant rain!. Those who wanted to stay, we often hitched to 4WD vehicles and pitched and as often we repeated the process Sunday to get them Off. I had a first Generation Shogun back then and it was worth its weight in gold shod with mixed use tyres, I have shifted heavy twin axle `vans without doing serious damage to the surface. Same technique, take it slowly and pick your straightest line.

We have been stuck on wet/soft grass, that was not in that state when we went to bed the night before. We carry, and had to use, a set of the Milenco ribbed mats

Amazon product ASIN B00WN3073W
Carried them for 5 years and only used them once, on that day, when I would have paid even more than the above price for them. I think that a big factor in us getting off was the fact that they are ribbed on both sides

Another vote for the Milenco mats - we were in Bakewell Showground a couple of weekends ago, - now renamed it Bogwell

Managed to get a mat under all 4 wheels on the Friday, and when we went to go on Monday, it was just enough to get us moving and away.

Probably best to ensuite you turn Traction Control off - last thing you want is the brakes cutting in and slowing your momentum down if one wheel is slipping

We have a pair of these. Cost around £35 from a 4x4 place. I think you can get them off ebay though ?
They roll up to the size of a decent loo roll too! (Each that is!)

Only free if you steal them and I’m sure the bakery is happy with that ?
