Looking at Toyo Observe Van. On 15 inch rims. At the same price I could have 215/70 or 225/70. The wider version has a higher load rating. That seems like the obvious choice, but is there a downside to going with the slightly wider tyre?

On my previous van with 15" rims, I went from 215 to 225. Mainly because I wanted Continental 4Seasons that I couldn't get as 215s at the time. It means the circumference goes up a bit (which actually made the speedo more accurate). The additional load rating made the tyre heavier. I did notice a small mpg drop and maybe a mild decrease in acceleration. But then the ride comfort was far better and the grip was massively improved. And I was less concerned that I was overloading the tyres.

Your insurance company should probably be informed. Although they might not put any loading on for this.

I would go for the 225's if nothing else it makes the speedo more accurate.
Did it on our last van can't comment on the ride as I changed from camping tyres so the ride would have been better whatever I put on.

So, none of the big fitters like ATS or Kwikfit seem to deal with Toyo tyres, at least on their websites. I can buy the Toyos online. How do I get them fitted? Will ATS do it if I call in and chat them up? Or maybe a Fiat service station?

Answer is, don’t deal with the big fitters, I use my local independent who can order any tyre from anywhere as they are not tied into anything.
I just get a fitted price on line from ‘my tyres’ or whoever and ask them if they can match it. I don’t mind if they can’t so long as they’re close, they order the tyres and fit them.
I no longer have anything to do with the likes of Kwikfit, ATS etc.

There's a website where you can buy tyres of your choice and a listing of participating fitters to whom you can take the tyres you want fitted. I've done it with my motorbike and the fitting charge is included in the (very competitive) tyre price.
I'll find the website and add a link.

Appreciated. Found a couple but hard to see a fitters list. Perhaps they deliver to your house and you roll them down to your local fitter.... :giggle:

Yep, delivered to my home and I take them to the fitter (3 miles away).
Bit of a problem there. I live in a flat, and the moho is in storage. I have no other vehicle. Looks like I'll be rolling them down the road......

We did this on ours to increase the axle payload.
Better comfort due to lower tyre pressures and a more accurate speedo, no negatives to report.

P'raps the fitter will be happy for the tyres to be delivered to his address - and in any event you'll have to take the m/h to him from storage.

I would try and find a fitting place first, then order the tyres from wherever can supply them, as many tyre fitting places say they cant fit our sized van in their workshops. I have never understood why they just dont just do it outside, one wheel at a time with jacks, or maybe they just cant be bothered to fit only and not supply as well:unsure:

Yes, have dug out the details. It was https://www.blackcircles.com/ as mentioned by Lucky and my mistake as I believe you can take them to any fitter as the fitter did charge me for fitting. Well I just took them to my usual place without checking first.

Ordered from blackcircles.com. Very competitive price, which includes fitting, valves, balancing. They offer you a choice of fitters in your area and deliver tyres to your chosen fitter. Quite impressive actually. Thanks to all who suggested them.

Yes ive had good service and price from blackcicirles but not from subcontracting fitters. They pissed us about all day only fitting one tyre at a time and stopping whenever one of thier jobs/sales was waiting. Not amused. No reaction to complaint.
